Even When The GOP Tries To Vilify The Poor, Americans Still Care For Their Fellow Citizens

It’s astounding we have such a tremendous number of homeless Americans in this country, when America is still the richest country on the planet.    So many of our homeless are veterans,  who number 75,000 on any given night.  Greater than 5% of our homeless are actually veterans who fought in Iraq or Afghanistan.  We often hear of the “fraud” that’s uncovered when an investigation is launched into a suspicious case, where a random person pretends to be homeless, and people actually admonish you for giving to the sad person at a stoplight because they’re convinced the stories on Fox News are true.  Everyone is gaming the system, if you ask the right wing media.  Everyone is a fraud.

This is the mentality of the me, me,me Republican party and the Christian Fundamentalist movement that has dominated our politics.   The Dominionists were the ones calling for a government shutdown rather than honor the debt already accrued by the country, they are the ones who think charity is no longer necessary for a moral society.  The wealthy needn’t worry about the “eye of the camel.” Poverty (is) seen as the result of moral failure.  Rendering unto Caesar (the Government) (is) no longer the moral thing to do. The mentality that it’s the poor person’s fault they don’t have a home or a job has been promoted ever since Ronald Reagan’s Morning in America has eviscerated the middle class and increased income inequality.   The statistics tell a different tale.  Poverty is a real problem in America and being a homeless family is more common than we’d like to think.

Homeless Woman: Arrested for child endangerment for leaving kids in the car during a job interview
Homeless Woman: Arrested for child endangerment for leaving kids in the car during a job interview

Shanesha Taylor, a homeless mother of two children: a six month old and two year old, was forced to leave her children in a car unattended while she was at a job interview in the city of Chandler, Arizona.  Upon hearing a cry from the car, a passer-by called the police.  Shanesha had no choice but to leave her kids alone while interviewing for a job.  Shanesha, like so many Americans, are living out of their cars and need a source of income.   Devastated at being charged with child endangerment, she faces jail time and losing custody of her children.  The story made the news and this was the most fortunate thing to happen to this woman living in poverty.

Amanda Bishop, a twenty-four year old fellow citizen, was moved by the heart-wrenching police photo.  She set up a fund on behalf of Shanesha  that has raised over $71,000 as of April 1st.  Naturally, on the website, there were those who thought she was undeserving, endangering her children.  But thankfully, there were enough people out there with a sense of compassion and decency in their hearts to give to a fellow human being in need.   It’s obvious there are far too many people now considered the working poor who were once considered middle-class.  The cost of living has gone up while wages have gone down.   With the exportation of so many jobs with unfavorable trade agreements lowering the amount of money per hour a worker can earn, people have to hold down two or more jobs just to subsist.

It’s nice to see people behaving like human beings and coalescing to help someone in need.  It’s time these theocratic “Christian” conservatives stop promoting unfair stereotypes and discouraging charitable giving.  People need programs like SNAP, Medicaid and Head Start to be funded more in times of economic crisis, not cut to ribbons like budget-makers in the GOP would like.  Congressman Paul Ryan has been absolutely savage in his cruel budget cuts that hurt the poor while giving sickening tax breaks to giant corporations.  Austerity is never the answer when people are suffering.  It’s time people elect representatives that will help the poor and fix the income inequality that creates poverty in a country of such wealth.  Democrats have always been the party who enacts legislation that benefits the majority of the population, especially women and children who make up the majority of the poor.  Stop electing Republicans and we’ll improve America for all Americans, not just the one percent.

Duplicitous GOP Wants Women To Work Full Time While Staying Home To Raise The Kidsp

Less than one year ago, Lou Dobbs and Erick Erickson vehemently asserted how important it is for family stability that the woman stay home and raise the kids. Dobbs stated: three-quarters of the people surveyed recognize that having moms as the primary breadwinner is bad for kids and bad for marriage, and reality shows us that’s the truth. In 2009, the Blue Eyed Snidely Whiplash Lookalike, Rep. Paul Ryan derided the idea of job lock where one’s healthcare is irrevocably tied to one’s employment. So the GOP seems like they’re in agreement about the importance of worker freedom and the flexibility of a job to meet everybody’s needs in America, right?

A logical-thinking person would presume the GOP wants nothing more than to preserve the traditional family and provide Americans the choice of working only if it is needed to support the family financially. Work should not be tied to the healthcare of a person, except when the Black President decides upon a policy that gives people that freedom. When you consider the degree of racism in the party, it is not surprising the GOP managed to flip flop their entire world view when the President’s signature healthcare law went into effect. Not unlike the “subtle” racist undertones of the Teaparty or the composition of Florida juries for cases where a black teenager is gunned down for no good reason, the GOP can’t help but loathe everything the African-American President supports. Even if they once applauded the Heritage Foundation’s corporatist model of insurance company-based healthcare, the moment the President passed the law, the entire party has been on a mission to destroy it. Any law that helps women, especially minority women, must be neutralized as economic mobility is taboo to the Patriarchal-White-Christian-Male-Republican America.

Preexisting conditions are no longer keeping Americans, especially those near or beyond retirement age, bound to jobs solely for the purpose of maintaining health coverage. This opens up jobs for the younger workforce who have higher rates of unemployment. Eliminating job lock provides folks the option of choosing to remain in the workforce, retiring or finally starting that entrepreneurial venture they’ve dreamt about.

The CBO has concluded Obamacare (the ACA) would cost 2.5 million jobs, and this phrase was immediately exploited by the GOP Senate. The agency (actually) said that some Americans would choose to stop working or work less because of the law. Naturally, the Conservative media falsely tied the idea of freedom in the workplace to a loss of jobs and more lazy Americans on welfare. Republicans want a polarized society with an oligarchy of mega-rich corporate owners with a system of labor barely discernible from indentured servitude. According to these misanthropes, it is perfectly acceptable to distribute healthcare based on employment and social status. The pursuit of happiness is only applicable if you are healthy or fortunate enough to afford it. American women should most certainly do something about this disgraceful party during the 2014 midterms.

GOP Star Cathy McMorris Rodgers To Rebut The State Of The Union

Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) will give the rebuttal to President Obama’s fifth State of the Union (SOTU) Address immediately following the Constitutionally mandated speech. The representative from Eastern Washington, after a mere eight years in Congress, is the fourth-ranking Republican in the House. We all know for certain, this response has already been written, without knowledge or concern for the actual content of the SOTU. More than likely, she will regurgitate Roger Ailes’ talking points which emanated from his cold, dark heart, not from actual facts.

She received her undergraduate degree from then unaccredited Pensacola Christian College, which certainly helped form her pro-Republican, women-should-know-their-place persona. In Congress, she has been a bastion of ultra-conservative values. Frighteningly enough, she is on the United States House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce, The Subcommittee on Energy and Power and the Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy Subcommittee on Health. As the Republicans have ALWAYS shown, they care little for the health and environment of the USA and have no interest in protecting future generations who have to live on this planet they’ve literally trashed.

One of only eight women to serve while giving birth (two times), thus fulfilling her duties of procreating, and has exploited this in her pro-life voting record (pro-life equals pro-fetus, not pro-humanity). She cares little for poor, single mothers as shown by her support of the Farm Bill on July 11, 2013. The bill passed in a 216-208 vote, which included farm policy and subsidies for the big farming industry but of course, did not include food stamps. McMorris Rodgers is personally involved in driving the Republican agenda in Congress, including VETOING The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and voting along with anti-American Teaparty lunatics by voting to shut down the government while blaming, who else, but President Obama.

Often compared to her friend Sarah Palin, McMorris Rodgers is also afflicted with Palin-like word-salad delivery. Any “rebuttal” will be less captivating than the SOTU, with its impressive audience set in the House chamber. The giant room is filled with the members of Congress, SCOTUS and countless dignitaries. It’s already hard to compete with the setting and a great orator like President Obama. But the GOP has a curious knack for finding the most uninspiring, least dynamic people to rebut the annual address, and this year proves no different. If the fate of her predecessors Rubio, Jindal and Daniels are any indication, her rebuttal will be her political kiss of death.

Israel And Saudi Arabia Violate Human Rights While Receiving Unquestioning U.S. Support

We all remember September 11, 2001 as if it were yesterday. The days immediately following the attacks were a flurry of hush hush commotion within the inner sanctum of Bush-Cheney foreign diplomacy. Most notably, the frantic pace of the exodus of Saudi royalty was swiftly and furtively accomplished without the knowledge of a nation desperately looking for the perpetrators of such unfathomable carnage. Quickly the attention and blame was diverted away from the Saudis with the launch of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Thousands of American lives were lost and trillions of dollars were spent on a war based on false pretenses.  Meanwhile, the perpetrators of the worst terrorist attacks on U.S. soil were never brought to justice and continue their same activities to this day.

9/11 was a golden opportunity for the United States to flex its muscle and escalate the War on Terror to levels that would help the U.S. and Israel justify obscene military expansion and imperialism. The American tragedy gave Israel the perfect opportunity to involve the US in their perpetual war against Islam, while neighboring Muslim nations would like nothing more than to see the Zionist State eradicated.  We must realize the GOP’s alleged devotion to Israel truly is a front for their true objective: creating an Armageddon scenario where Rapture Christianity‘s prophecies can be fulfilled.  Israel and Saudi Arabia have an interesting alliance both united in the shared opposition to both Iranian and Muslim Brotherhood influence in the region. Neither country truly wants majority rule, they believe only a few chosen people should govern.

President Bush and Prince Abdullah kissed and held hands. President Obama bowed to the Saudi Prince and the GOP was outraged
President Bush and Prince Abdullah kissed and held hands. President Obama bowed to the Saudi Prince and the GOP was outraged

The Saudi Royal Family was literally given a private escort out of the U.S. before the excrement truly hit the fan. After learning that fifteen of the nineteen hijackers were found to be Saudi Nationals, somehow the culpability of the Wahhabi Kingdom was overlooked. In fact, Saudi Arabia is quite the supporter of terrorism worldwide yet was never the focus of our investigation.  They’ve claimed responsibility for Chechen Islamic terrorist attacks in Russia, among other places.

The impending Sochi Winter Olympics have been plagued by threats of Chechen-backed suicide bombing missions. Last summer, Saudi intelligence chief Prince Bandar reportedly offered Russian President Putin a deal: if Russia abandons Syria, Saudi Arabia would protect the Sochi Olympics from Islamic terrorists. The Saudis essentially control the Islamic terrorist cells in Chechnya and give Putin an ultimatum that if he complies with Saudi Arabia’s wishes with regards to Syria, they’ll make sure the Winter Games are not plagued with violence in an event designed to bring the world together in sport.

Palestinians treated like prisoners by Israel
Palestinians treated like prisoners by Israel

Israel has shown despicable disregard for the human rights of the Palestinians, essentially denying them the right to exist in a land they’ve had claim to for thousands of years.  Palestinians are the victims of Israeli blockades and are forced to live in dire poverty.  They’ve even gone so far as to put Palestinian children in cages if they’re even suspected of throwing rocks.  Israel was the only country to systematically prosecute children in its military courts, and added that “no Israeli children come into contact with the military court system”.

Together, Israel and Saudi Arabia seek to minimize the rights of those perceived as inferior. Saudi Arabian women are treated like dogs, with very few rights.  They are the main financial backer of Al Qaeda-sponsored groups worldwide, yet receive almost no scrutiny by the US mainstream media.  Israel’s history of supporting Apartheid in South Africa and their treatment of neighboring Arabs indicate they don’t subscribe to the idea that “All Men Are Created Equal.” Prime Minister Netanyahu and Sheldon Adelson’s promise to decimate Tehran with nuclear weapons should Iran attempt to procure their own nukes creates a constant state of tension in the region. We have certainly not helped matters with our own abysmal history with Iran. The US has intervened in Iranian affairs by overthrowing their democratically elected secular government with a CIA coup in 1953 . United against Iran, Saudi Arabia, the US and Israel form an unlikely triumvirate which has turned Iran from a progressive secular country to the Draconian theocracy it is today. Once again, intervention by all three nations has done far more harm than good. If you ask most Americans, they believe Iran is the sole perpetrator of terrorism because the Bush Administration labeled Iran part of the Axis of Evil.

The overwhelming support of Israel by Democrats and Republicans is accepted by most Americans without question. Seldom do we hear any negative criticism of the Jewish nation while we provide them billions of dollars in military aid. The Saudis are responsible for much of our insane and inane War on Terror yet we demonize Iran and Iraq so much more. America’s imperialistic misbehavior combined with Saudi and Israeli Nationalism have wreaked all sorts of havoc in the region, but thanks to our mainstream media misrepresentation, Americans will be none the wiser to who’s really behind some of the worst human rights violations in the Middle East.

Perhaps America’s leaders and some of our “allies” should be scrutinized a bit more intently?

The GOP Vision For America Depends On False Christian Doctrine

Let’s face facts; the GOP’s vision for America is a Theocratic, Corporatist Utopia where income inequality is accepted without question. Republicans can only accomplish their goals with an electorate comprised of malleable sheeple too terrified, too ignorant and too powerless to think for themselves. More importantly, an unlikely group of poor Americans will actually vote against their own self-interests and contrary to their well-being. Their Republican Party has no interest in their well-being.  The values of the plutocrats in charge are universally upheld by the masses, always without challenging the inherent inequality of their system.

What’s the best means to this end? Since the late 1970’s, the Heritage Foundation has worked tirelessly to promote the erroneous idea that America was founded on Christian Principles. By furtively ending the separation of church and state and ushering in a Dominionist/Fundamentalist Government even the Taliban would love, the Religious Right has been hard at work promoting Draconian Old Testament-insanity as the law of the land.

Paul Weyrich strategized the current platform of the Republican Party largely during the Reagan Administration. The four insidious tactics he recommended are still being used today.

1) Falsehoods are not only acceptable, they are a necessity. The corollary is: The masses will accept any lie if it is spoken with vigor, energy and dedication. (Medicaid expansion will bankrupt the states, trickle down economics works).

2) It is necessary to be cast under the cloak of “goodness” whereas all opponents and their ideas must be cast as “evil.” (Muslims bad, Christians good).

3) Complete destruction of every opponent must be accomplished through unrelenting personal attacks. (The swift boating of John Kerry, endless attacks on Black Americans Eric Holder, Susan Rice and President Obama).

4) The creation of the appearance of overwhelming power and brutality is necessary in order to destroy the will of opponents to launch opposition of any kind. (NRA, military hawkishness).

The fundamentalist wing of the Heritage Foundation shapes the public personalities of today’s Tea Party Republicans. As religiously insane as he is,  Ted Cruz, the Dominionist Tea Party Corporatist Senator from Texas, (with his numerous fundamentalist endorsements), can’t compare to the latest Texas Tea Party hero, Steve Stockman.

Tea Party Born Again Christian Tx. Representative Steve Stockman

Stockman, best known for inviting Ted Nugent to the State of the Union Address in 2012, has a sick fascination with arming all Americans (even fetuses). The representative from Texas is even primarying the ultra-conservative Senator Jon Cornyn citing how much more right wing he is by comparison. The “Christian” values he claims he espouses are as ludicrous as the Rand Paul claim that denying jobless Americans unemployment compensation is the compassionate Christian thing to do. He is pro-life (which means only pro-fetus), a born again Christian and a fierce advocate of harsh immigration policies. Among the other bills and resolutions Stockman sponsored: a proposals for a constitutional amendment to block the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants from being granted automatic citizenship, a measure to define human life as beginning at conception, and a bill to eliminate background checks, waiting periods and registration requirements for firearms.

To make matters worse, the Koch billionaires vehemently support the ruse that Christian doctrine purports the notion that prosperity, above all, was espoused by Jesus himself. Charles Koch made a sizable contribution to Catholic University’s School of Business to combat the recent declaration by Pope Francis that unfettered capitalism is inherently evil. Religion is used by the wealthy on the Right to ignore what Jesus taught: It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

Another popular idea with Conservatives is the total rejection of raising the minimum wage to a level where no public assistance is necessary to supplement the worker.  They believe that there actually should be no minimum wage, no unions and somehow they dupe poor Republicans into agreeing with them.  The whole concept of “Right to Work States” is espoused by the Heritage Foundation, which unfortunately means they are against the best interests of the worker’s well-being.  Technically this philosophy amounts to looking a lot like states giving workers the right to work for less.  If you look at which states are right to work states, you’ll also notice those states are generally controlled by the GOP and consequently have higher rates of poverty and perform the poorest academically.

Right To Work States Are Mainly Red States
Right To Work States Are Mainly Red States

As the most religious Western industrialized nation on earth, I believe the American obsession with eliminating the separation of church and state is a dangerous path for so many reasons.  Religion discourages critical thinking (Creationism over Evolution), while promoting bigotry and misogyny (War on Women).  It is also more bellicose than the secular philosophies.  The Religious Right’s embracing of the concept of the Rapture as official Christian Doctrine shows their intent on bringing about the end of the world just to meet the savior. It’s the absence of mental health which causes the ignorant to elect people to govern who are interested in bringing about the destruction of society.  In fact, we should question the mental health of anyone who would vote GOP that is not in the top 1%.

The Secret Strategy Driving Republicans Today

Scary Draconian Domininionists are trying to ruin America

Odds are, most Americans have never heard of Dominionism or Reconstructionism. This extreme form of Christianity is much more common than most realize, but as a general rule, most (not all) don’t publicly proclaim their radical religious views. Reconstructionists believe that Christians alone should control civil government, conducting it according to Biblical, not secular law. Two of Dominionism’s best known devotees are Senators Ted Cruz and Rand Paul.

This philosophy is not new to the American political scene. America was extremely affected by the fundamentalist Christians via George W. Bush, who favored faith-based programs and sought to deny schools funding if they taught anything but abstinence-only sex education. This theology gives an insight into the view of today’s GOP: a polarized Christian society where the poor are afforded no protection from the wealthy who can do as they please simply because of their financial stature. Bigotry, misogyny, and slavery are just a few of the Old Testament concepts embraced by these prominent Republicans.

The Dominionists seek to control the Seven Mountains of society which are: (1) Business; (2) Government; (3) Media; (4) Arts and Entertainment; (5) Education; (6) Family; and (7) Religion. If you can have control over these seven areas, you can shape and control whatever takes place in nations, and even the world. Just like the Old Testament dictates, women and foreigners are second class citizens and homosexuality is “sinful.” Most Dominionists are still sympathetic to the Civil War defeat of the Confederacy and see nothing wrong with human rights abuses in the Antebellum south.

Both Cruz and Paul along with RNC Chair Reince Priebus, were publicly blessed and anointed, with the laying-on of hands, by Dominionist Pastors, at the July 19th-20th 2013 Iowa Renewal Project pastors’ gathering held at the Des Moines Marriott Hotel. Cruz was labeled the de facto leader of the GOP and the October 1st shutdown showed the nation he is that influential. Their obsession with the acquisition of wealth is quite antithetical to that of their “Savior,” Jesus Christ.

The constitutionally mandated wall separating church and state is completely obliterated by Seven Mountain Dominionists. Designed to “bring the spoils of war to the priests”, thus helping to bring about a prophesied “great transfer of wealth”, from the “wicked” to righteous gentile believers, this morally bankrupt way of thinking and acting is justified by the supposition that it’s divinely mandated. These extremist theocrats actually believe they are chosen by god to impose their selfish agenda. Much like billionaire Sheldon Adelson and LDS Bishop, Willard Romney , these guys truly believe they are the Anointed Ones. You can be certain the obsession with the impending Rapture will ensure a type of governance where the consequences of inconsiderate behavior do not factor into policy decisions. Dominionist Michelle Bachmann has claimed we are in the End Times. A religious test was omitted intentionally by the Founding Fathers because they foresaw the dangers of mixing religion and politics. Ted Cruz and his devotees embody their worst fears!

If You Are A Republican, You Cannot Be Pro-Life

There will always be a strong anti-abortion movement amongst those who view themselves as god-fearing, Jesus-loving Americans. In fact, the Republican/TeaParty-led House has proposed 41 abortion-prohibitive bills as they view abortion as an affront to the sanctity of life principles they hold so dear; or so they’d like us to think. Being Pro-Life means one must advocate for ALL life, not just unborn fetuses. Most fundamentalist Christians and followers of the teachings of Jesus have forgotten the Golden Rule. Their morals are shaped by a deity that serves corporations and the wealthy who would have a harder time entering the Kingdom of Heaven than a camel passing through the eye of a needle. Narrowing down the ways the GOP violates the teachings of Jesus and the rights of humanity to a simple article is nearly impossible. I will briefly list what I feel are the most obvious contradictions of the Republican Party Platform.

You cannot be pro-life and support the death penalty or support, advocate for, or participate in war. In summary, killing is wrong if you are PRO life. Period. You cannot be a man of god like Mike Huckabee and advocate for the hunting of Democrats. A successful hunt means something has to be killed, and a Democrat is a human being and fellow American. Nugent-Huckabee are not only misanthropic but very unpatriotic. Southern states especially have more people who identify themselves as Christians. Coincidentally, these states, like Texas, execute a disproportionate number of minorities. Being a proponent of numerous executions like Governor Perry negates a pro-life agenda and violates the teachings of Jesus.

You cannot oppose gender equality. Women cannot be treated like sinful beings with less value than men. Violence against women should not be overlooked, as if often is. Norfolk, Virginia recently overturned a long time policy where it was assumed the victim is lying. With matters of sexual assault, only 6% of cases are proven false. No woman wants that degree of scrutiny and shame without provocation. Women have also suffered income inequality, been downplayed to subservient status by religion, and continue to be “slut-shamed” by the GOP plutocracy. Without full gender equality, pro-life only means pro-male life.

You cannot oppose the idea of healthcare for all while advocating for loosely controlled gun laws that endanger American lives every day. America is quite uncharacteristic for a Western nation where a vocal portion of our citizens feel guns are a right and healthcare is a privilege. Most industrialized nations have effective, strict gun control legislation and provide their citizenry with essential healthcare while the USA ranks 38th worldwide. Ron Paul’s supporters cheered when he failed to denounce the idea of letting people die if they can’t afford healthcare at a GOP debate. Only permitting the fortunate to access healthcare seems awfully antithetical to a pro-life agenda. Proving they are against helping the poor, the GOP voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act forty times! The GOP has also vetoed veterans benefits and first responders’ compensation, showing no compassion for those who have sacrificed for their country.

You cannot oppose a livable, minimum wage. Federal minimum wage is only $7.25 an hour, or only $15,080 a year for a full-time worker. That’s more than $8,000 below the federal poverty line for a family of four. The minimum wage for tipped workers currently stands at only $2.13 an hour — the same as it was over 20 years ago. After Republican-led state governments slash funding for the victims of these insulting wages by cutting SNAP and other welfare programs, they ask these struggling Americans to pull themselves up by their bootstraps while defunding public education thus making that whole concept non-utilitarian and unachievable. Economist and talk show host, Thom Hartmann brilliantly advocates for the benefits of raising the minimum wage to a livable level.

Lastly, you cannot advocate, support, or passively tolerate economic policies which oppress the poor, minorities, or any other marginalized group. Hateful policies like those of conservative dinosaur Phyllis Schlafly only serve to portray the GOP as an unbelievably callous, inhumane group of monsters with no compassion for those escaping a life of dire poverty to settle here in the USA. When the GOP 2012 debate candidates mentioned ways of making the border as treacherous as possible and treating undocumented immigrants with cruelty, the crowd cheered in a very disturbing manner. The GOP has proven and continues to prove how truly misanthropic they are. If one is for the life of the unborn, they should also advocate for the life of every living being as well. Jesus preached forgiveness, tolerance and love. The current Republican party fails to include these principles in their legislation and modus operandi.
