The Mormon Church, Mitt Romney and the entire Republican Party has launched an all-out assault on contraception and abortion. That’s exactly why Romney is hosting his May 16th $50,000 a plate fundraiser with the manufacturer of Plan B. Obviously, money trumps all principles with Romney and his party. Etch-a-Sketch man did hold a different position before. In December 2005, then Governor Romney required all Massachusetts hospitals, including Catholic ones, to provide emergency contraception to rape victims, even though some Catholics view the morning-after pill as a form of abortion. “Plan B One-Step® is intended to prevent pregnancy after known or suspected contraceptive failure or unprotected intercourse.” Romney called this the Abortion Pill. How ironic he’d join forces with Teva Pharmaceuticals who create drugs which act contrary to his “beliefs” or whatever he calls them today.
The fundraiser at Phil Frost’s house will most likely gloss over this little inconsistency, heaven knows he’s done THAT before. Romney’s Position on Plan B in 2012 is clear. Conveniently bashing the Obama administration in an attempt to pander to his base he said this in February. “This same administration said that the churches and the institutions they run, such as schools and let’s say adoption agencies, hospitals, that they have to provide for their employees free of charge, contraceptives, morning after pills, in other words abortive pills, and the like at no cost. Think what that does to people in faiths that do not share those views. This is a violation of conscience.”
Really Mitt? You have a conscience? I’m not very convinced and neither are a majority of Americans. Obviously, money is king. He already bought the nomination, but buying the general election may prove far more challenging, especially with stunts like this.
