Massachusetts Would Be Wise To Avoid Romney and His GOP

28 Sep

Perhaps Massachusetts’ flirtation period with the GOP is in its twilight. Current Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick (D) said, “I can tell you,…he was a great salesman who was more interested in having the job than doing it,” describing Mitt Romney’s tenure as Governor of the New England Commonwealth. This seems to be the same attitude he possesses about the job at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. He wants the power, but really has no intention of using it to benefit the majority of his “subjects.”

This was a man who never concerns himself with minutia like the passage of bills to fund the prevention of hate crimes, he’d rather keep his state on a par in job creation with then Katrina-ravaged Louisiana . While governor, the state’s total job growth was just 0.9 percent, well behind other high-wage, high-skill economies in New York (2.7), California (4.7), and North Carolina (7.6). The national average, meanwhile, was better than 5 percent. Dismal as these numbers are, what’s more telling is Romney’s current poll numbers in his “home” state. President Obama leads Romney 60 percent to 38 percent in the Bay State, a veritable beat down of epic proportions, a pummeling he richly deserves. This similar performance by his TeaParty darling supporter, Senator Scott Brown shows just how little these men care for the state they so poorly represent.

Senator Scott Brown and Willard Romney

Former Cosmopolitan Magazine centerfold and Wall Street favorite, Scott Brown, has shown little concern for the majority of the citizens of Massachusetts. Although he is trying to distance himself from Romney’s 47% remark at a private fundraiser, he has shown he holds a similar world view. He’s a pro-big oil, anti-women, anti-welfare, teabagging Conservative who seems to be losing his allure. He recently proclaimed Justice and Fascist Antonin Scalia as his favorite member of the Supreme Court.

Massachusetts has an abysmal record of electing women in US Senate races, as there has never been a female Senator from the state. Remarkably, his opponent, Elizabeth Warren, has a lead in most polls. If Massachusetts has more sense than the folks in Missouri poised to elect legitimate rape advocate, Todd Akin (R), we should, by all accounts, see the first female Senator from the state. Even with the ugliness of the racial attack on her Cherokee heritage, she still has a fight on her hands that the rest of the country is watching closely.

It seems Massachusetts has gambled with Republicans in the state whose politics has been primarily formed by a Kennedy legacy of service. JFK, RFK and Ted Kennedy, among other greats from the state, have served their populace with dignity and consideration. These nouveau right wing figure heads who have shown nothing more than a politicians look with zero substance are perhaps just a blemish on the Democratic history of Massachusetts. The state was and still is a great voice in a democracy that has no use for shallow, morally bankrupt men like Willard Romney and Scott Brown.

Stop Your Solyndra Lies Romney!

3 Jun

20120603-075513.jpg

Last week we saw the smug Willard Romney appear in front of now bankrupt Solyndra, touting it as a failure of the Obama Administration. Period. It was 100% President Obama’s fault, right? Hell no! Solyndra is allegedly to the Political Left what the Keystone XL Pipeline is to the Political Right. Except Solyndra never threatened to endanger natural resources and lives .

Perhaps Captain Flip-Flop may want to check a few FACTS:

1. The Solyndra deal is more than three years old, and started under the Bush administration, which tried to conditionally approve the loan right before Obama took office.

2. CLAIM: Email Saying Deal Was “NOT Ready For Prime Time” Was Warning About Financial Risk FACT: The Email Did Not Voice Any Concerns About Risk Of Loan

3. It’s often claimed that the Solyndra loan guarantee was “rushed through” by the Obama administration for political reasons. In fact, the Solyndra loan guarantee was a multi-year process that the Bush administration launched in 2007.

4. You have to read half the story to learn that the loan guarantee was made in 2009 and the audit was done in 2010 after market conditions had sharply worsened! The media never explains that the company itself raised $250 million from private investors after the supposedly devastating audit!

5. In October, 2011 car thief and richest man in Congress, Darrell Issa, hosted a breakfast fundraiser for Willard with a lobbyist from SOLYNDRA. Wonder what that’s all about?

6. The company’s backers included private investors who had diverse political interests. The loan comprised just 1.3 percent of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) overall loan portfolio. To date, Solyndra is the only loan that’s known to be troubled. The loans were guaranteed by $10 billion in a Congressional fund. This was not a colossal loss by the standards of any Bush Administration debacle! The taxpayers have sure suffered much more from Halliburton. Let’s talk about that, Willard!

Mitt Romney also had his own history of supporting green energy while severely conservative Governor of Massachusetts. He created a clean energy fund portfolio and was very enthusiastic about the industry, something he’s obviously against now. Of the six companies listed in the renewable energy fund, three are now bankrupt.

But he’s the business man. The master of the private sector. He critiques President Obama for his lack of private sector experience, as if politicians need that. Romney never mentions his stint as a politician, because frankly, he sucked pretty bad in the jobs department. Unlike Obama, Romney took office during an economic uptick. Massachusetts had a net job growth of 1.4 percent under Romney. However, that was far slower growth than the national average of 5.3 percent.

Romney is completely full of shit. Period. I wish he didn’t own the media so we could truly see how much of a liar this man is. But don’t hold your breath.

I have to give major props to a twitter great @MittRmoney and the group 140 Elect for this list. Because the most effective tools against this candidate are the facts! Here are a few gems.

•Mitt Romney left Massachusetts with a 39% approval rating and 47th out of 50 states in job creation •OneTermGovernor Mitt Romney left MA with 24% higher spending, $501 million in new “fees”, and the highest debt per capita in the country.
•Mitt Romney’s records as Governor are gone. He ordered staff to destroy computer drives after buying them for $100,000.
•Mitt Romney protested in favor of the Vietnam draft then lived in a French palace during the war.
•“One of the ways my sons are showing support for our nation is helping me get elected.” Romney on sons’ military service
•52% of Republicans believe the war in Afghanistan is not worth fighting. @MittRomney is not one of them.
•President @BarackObama leads Mitt Romney in his home state of Massachusetts by over 21%.
•Mitt Romney: “Don’t try to stop the foreclosure process. Let it run its course and hit the bottom”
•Mitt Romney: “If GM and Chrysler get the bailout, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye.”
•Mitt Romney in 2002: “I will preserve and protect a woman’s right to choose, and am dedicated to honoring my word.”
•Mitt Romney on Planned Parenthood: “We’re going to get rid of that.”
•Bishop Romney once threatened to excommunicate a young single mother if she did not give her son up for adoption.
•Mitt Romney touted RomneyCare as a model for national health care reform three times in 2009.
•Romney on bin Laden: “It’s not worth moving heaven and earth, spending billions of dollars just to catch one person.”
•Mitt Romney made millions investing in companies that did business in Iran.
•Mitt Romney’s tax plan gives millionaires an average tax cut of $250,000.
•Mitt Romney’s budget plan would throw 13 million people off of food stamps.
•In 1996, Mitt Romney called the flat tax a “tax cut for fat cats.” Now Romney says “I love a flat tax.”

It’s amazing the two candidates are so close in the polls currently. There really should be no contest between a President Obama with integrity and this man with zero principles or ethics.

Romney: Job Creator or Job Cremator

22 May

Amidst a sea of diversity: white voters from all walks of life: Teapartiers, Birthers, Constitutionalists, NRA members, hedge fund managers; Mitt Romney speaks of his record on job creation. He’s equating the creation of employment with the creation of wealth for a lucky few. Bain Capital is his crowning achievement. A business based on using borrowed capital, raising the value of a business by lowering costs (a.k.a. firing people), then selling it for a profit to investors, often times breaking up the company and displacing the lowly worker. The figure began at ‘hundreds of thousands’ of jobs created and has now morphed into simply ‘thousands’ of jobs. In typical Romney fashion, his facts evolve as often as his positions.

20120522-075844.jpg

Here he is trying to explain why the auto bailout was his idea even though he criticized the President’s plan as foolish back in 2008. In fact, the Conservative Wall Street Journal stated this “foolishness” created 1.5 million jobs. Meanwhile, we hear not a peep of Romney’s jobs record as Governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007. Paul Begala, Former Clinton advisor, said this strategy is a mistake. Romney should be defining his record in Massachusetts before his opponents can define it for him.

As Governor, Willard took Massachusetts from 37th in job creation to 47th. It ranked only ahead of Katrina-ravaged Louisiana and two rust belt states, in dire straits due to George Bush’s outsourcing and the continuation of NAFTA and other harmful trade policies. The National Journal asserts, ‘Economists from Massachusetts also say Romney was never able to solve the structural problems inherent in the state’s economy — issues that now plague the country as a whole and will challenge whoever becomes president in 2013 — such as the decline in manufacturing and the dearth of employment for less-educated, low-income workers.’ Sounds to me these workers were helped immensely by President Obama and thrown under a bus by Governor Romney.

Willard is quite awkward when it comes to relating to the common worker. A child of privilege and wealth, he can’t seem to connect with the average American. But it’s not just the stark socioeconomic differences. It’s also a matter of Mitt’s defining Mormon faith that creates this barrier between himself and the voter.

As Governor, he displayed ‘sense of detachment…a function partly of his faith, which has its own tight social community that most outsiders don’t see. Indeed, the stories of Romney’s humanity and warmth come mostly from people who know him as a fellow Mormon.’ He can’t seem to relate to anyone outside his ward or stake. Since most of his prospective constituents are not LDS churchgoers, most folks won’t be able to relate to him on the same personal level as President Obama, a man far more comfortable in his own skin.

His business beliefs that profit is far more important than people is as contrary to many Americans as his other belief that Jesus will rule from Missouri in his Second Coming. That’s a blog for another day….
