Sports Heroes Attribute Success to God; Churches Use These Profits to Fund Hate

21 Nov

When Gabby Douglas won the Olympic Gymnastics All-Around gold, she proclaimed, “…I give all the glory to God, it’s kind of a win-win situation. The glory goes up to Him and the blessings fall down on me.” She will be reiterating this sentiment in front of thousands of fans at Canyon Ridge Christian Church in Las Vegas December 1st and 2nd, 2012. This is a paid speaking engagement, the church communique explains: The church enjoys bringing these inspirational guests in for our community and congregation and sets aside funds each year for special services like these. The congregation provides untold sums of money, not a penny of which any tax is paid back to the city that provides the roads, power, water, fire and police services. Instead of the largely charitable contribution to society the church should provide, the unregulated and tax-free donations are often spent on promotional events, such as financing celebrities for the purpose of recruiting more worshippers. Tim Tebow spoke there earlier this year and naturally he attracted capacity crowds.

Canyon Ridge’s motto: God First

The Tim Tebow appearance at Canyon Ridge

When I learned of Gabby Douglas’ appearance, I didn’t think too much about it, as I presumed it was merely meant to inspire young athletes and patrons alike. After seeing so many elaborate color-printed cards displayed at various Las Vegas locations advertising her visit, I thought I’d look into this church a little further. Gabby is an outstanding Olympic athlete who, unfortunately, is not a dynamic public speaker. Like the Tebow visit, Gabby’s appearance is mainly orchestrated to attract potential new congregants.

First here are some basic facts about Canyon Ridge. It is most definitely a “mega-church”, which is by definition any church with a weekly attendance of over 2,000 people. With an average weekly attendance of 6,000, Canyon Ridge can hold up to 3,000 at one time. There are two other mega branches of the church in the Las Vegas Metropolitan area: Central Christian Church, a church where over 5,000 members can attend at once. The third branch, The Crossing is a smaller version, but still qualifies as a mega-church. According to Christian Standard, The Crossing was planted by Canyon Ridge Christian Church on September 24, 2000, and is the youngest megachurch with an average worship attendance of 2,224 last year. Canyon Ridge, located in the northwest valley of Las Vegas, was birthed by Central Christian Church in 1993 and averaged almost 6,000 in attendance last year. Central Christian, also in Las Vegas, averaged close to 18,000 in worship last year. Those are some great church planting genes! I recognize many churches do charitable deeds, like many in the NY/NJ area are currently doing for victims of Hurricane Sandy. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what most megachurches do other than to try to increase their bottom line.

Like so many religions, Canyon Ridge is interested in promoting their faith by expansion all over the globe. They have partnered with the leader of Uganda’s anti-homosexuality movement (AKA “Kill the Gays”), Martin Ssempa. Denounced by Pastor Rick Warren, who led the invocation at President Obama’s Inauguration in 2009, Canyon Ridge’s Pastor Kevin Odor refuses to cut ties with Ssempa citing the need to reduce HIV in Africa. Perhaps someone needs to inform Pastor Odor that HIV is rampant in Sub-Saharan Africa due to poverty, polygamy, lack of education and gender inequality, not just homosexual behavior. The law goes so far as to threaten imprisonment to anyone knowing active homosexuals and not reporting their “illegal” activities. He has yet to change his stance on this issue, which ascertains the conservative, fundamentalist agenda of this church.

As abhorrent as this is, I find the entire concept of brainwashing youth into a culture where God controls all the action creates superficiality and trivializes this contrived sense of morality. If God controls everything, isn’t it presumptuous to interfere with the divine plan? I know many people take comfort in a supernatural deity, and I have no problem with that. What troubles me is the thinking God is so concerned with one’s athletic success while this same God is ignoring plight, allowing babies to be born into abject poverty with AIDS. This creates a selfish culture which rewards obedience to an organization that enriches itself with absolutely no financial disclosure or accountability, while ignoring the real issues we as human beings should truly be concerning ourselves with. Merely praying for someone, or even charging money to have prayers answered is no substitute for food and medical assistance. It is a fraud, and deep down, most people know this.

Religion has a stranglehold over our culture. It’s ironic we never hear about God’s role in a post-game interview where the team loses. “We’d like to thank the almighty for this ass-kicking. Apparently it was exactly what we deserved.” Largely this is a phenomenon of American athletes.

Giving God credit and thanks for opportunity in life, or the motivation to strive, is all but universal among the faithful. But something more seems to be going on here. Athletes are not just thanking God for opportunity and fervor — they are crediting God for a competitive victory. This, in turn, seems to be suggesting something very specific about the inclinations of the Almighty. Has anyone paused to consider that for every winner, there is a loser (in fact, often a whole batch of losers) — and that if God is choosing winners, then God must be choosing losers, too? Are the athletes who attribute their victory to God willing to “blame” God for the often-bitter disappointments of the vanquished?
Is it reasonable to hold God accountable for defeat and failure? Is it reasonable if the losers are good people — just as good as the winner? Is it still reasonable if they are not only just as good, but also practitioners of the same faith, and just as pious? And what if they are just as good, just as pious, just as fervid, practicing the same religion, and worked just as hard? On what basis is God making such decisions? I suppose we might, as people tend to do when matters of faith are questioned, just throw up our hands and ascribe this all to the unknowable particulars of God’s grand plan. But if winning and losing are equally prescribed in the grand plan, then are they really winning and losing? Isn’t everyone doing an equally good job of doing the job God decided to give them? If the losers are every bit as good at doing what God wants them to do as the winners, then who are we to presume to declare them losers — and give medals to the other guys?

Canyon Ridge Church provides spiritual enrichment for many of the faithful and of course is viewed as a positive influence in their lives. It’s the young, impressionable children who are forced to believe this propaganda (which includes a God who always needs more money) who could be most easily manipulated. I watched a few online videos by Pastor Odor and found most of them were quite reminiscent of 700 Club solicitations . He’s mainly concerned with reinforcing the belief in a higher being, as “God” is the answer to all things. That’s paramount to his organization’s success.

It seems this Las Vegas megachurch engages in the same level of deception many televangelists have been found guilty of in years past. Simply click on the giving link and you’ll see how generosity is equated with holiness, which is deplorable in my opinion. I believe it is a form of abuse to influence children in this indoctrinating manner. By furthering an organization steeped in preaching intolerance and denouncing equal human rights, we are doing no service to the morality and emotional well-being of our youth, nor are we truly helping humanity. Jesus preached a message of love that didn’t include a tax-free operation laden with corruption. Helping the poorest and neediest, including homosexuals, is more in line with his teachings.

Massachusetts Would Be Wise To Avoid Romney and His GOP

28 Sep

Perhaps Massachusetts’ flirtation period with the GOP is in its twilight. Current Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick (D) said, “I can tell you,…he was a great salesman who was more interested in having the job than doing it,” describing Mitt Romney’s tenure as Governor of the New England Commonwealth. This seems to be the same attitude he possesses about the job at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. He wants the power, but really has no intention of using it to benefit the majority of his “subjects.”

This was a man who never concerns himself with minutia like the passage of bills to fund the prevention of hate crimes, he’d rather keep his state on a par in job creation with then Katrina-ravaged Louisiana . While governor, the state’s total job growth was just 0.9 percent, well behind other high-wage, high-skill economies in New York (2.7), California (4.7), and North Carolina (7.6). The national average, meanwhile, was better than 5 percent. Dismal as these numbers are, what’s more telling is Romney’s current poll numbers in his “home” state. President Obama leads Romney 60 percent to 38 percent in the Bay State, a veritable beat down of epic proportions, a pummeling he richly deserves. This similar performance by his TeaParty darling supporter, Senator Scott Brown shows just how little these men care for the state they so poorly represent.

Senator Scott Brown and Willard Romney

Former Cosmopolitan Magazine centerfold and Wall Street favorite, Scott Brown, has shown little concern for the majority of the citizens of Massachusetts. Although he is trying to distance himself from Romney’s 47% remark at a private fundraiser, he has shown he holds a similar world view. He’s a pro-big oil, anti-women, anti-welfare, teabagging Conservative who seems to be losing his allure. He recently proclaimed Justice and Fascist Antonin Scalia as his favorite member of the Supreme Court.

Massachusetts has an abysmal record of electing women in US Senate races, as there has never been a female Senator from the state. Remarkably, his opponent, Elizabeth Warren, has a lead in most polls. If Massachusetts has more sense than the folks in Missouri poised to elect legitimate rape advocate, Todd Akin (R), we should, by all accounts, see the first female Senator from the state. Even with the ugliness of the racial attack on her Cherokee heritage, she still has a fight on her hands that the rest of the country is watching closely.

It seems Massachusetts has gambled with Republicans in the state whose politics has been primarily formed by a Kennedy legacy of service. JFK, RFK and Ted Kennedy, among other greats from the state, have served their populace with dignity and consideration. These nouveau right wing figure heads who have shown nothing more than a politicians look with zero substance are perhaps just a blemish on the Democratic history of Massachusetts. The state was and still is a great voice in a democracy that has no use for shallow, morally bankrupt men like Willard Romney and Scott Brown.

Is the Apparent Selfishness of Mitt Romney Evidence of a Larger Problem?

14 Sep

Mitt Romney is shaped primarily by his upbringing in the Mormon Church. It is relevant in this case because it is the vehicle by which he justifies his reluctance to release his tax returns. Those returns would demonstrate the pittance he has paid to the American Government due to his creative accountants finding every single loophole domestically and offshore. It also has justified his acquisition of wealth at all costs, especially by the devastation of so many lives and jobs which Bain Capital has decimated. My questions grow as I consider these two aspects of the faith: (1) The LDS church is one of the wealthiest religions in America while, (2) Mormon-dominated Utah is consistently first in personal bankruptcies. The Church gets rich–as members get poor. I looked to Park Romney for guidance.

I phrased my question like this: “All humans are selfish to some extent (with a few exceptions). From what I’ve learned about Mitt and the LDS church, it appears Mormonism is among the most selfish, materialistic religions out there. I was wondering what aspects of LDS that haven’t been widely discussed in the mainstream are most egregiously selfish. What are your thoughts if any?”

Park and Mitt Romney

Park Romney explains.

Ostensibly, Mormonism is a Christian religion and as such, subscribes to Christian values of selflessness, charity, and sacrifice in the service of one’s fellow man. Many, however, have shared observations about the apparent materialism so often seen as a part of Mormonism. Questions about the Mormon culture and what underlies the Mormon materialism understandably arise. Mitt Romney’s massive accumulations through the questionable business practices of Bain Capital are at the forefront of social discourse at this moment. No less relevant are the business practices of a Mormon Elder or High Priest, who, employed as the business manager at a veterinary clinic, requires that his staff overstate to clients the needs of their animals in an effort to emotionally manipulate them into paying for procedures that are not reasonably required for the satisfactory life state of the pet, but rather enrich the veterinary practice by exploiting the good will and loving concern of the pet’s owners, or the morality of the Mormon attorney, who exploits the faith and hopes of his client by subtly misrepresenting the likelihood of successful litigation with just enough vagueness and ambiguity to get the retainer amidst plausible deniability that he ever made any enforceable representations.

Countless examples of inappropriate exploitation of love, faith, fear, or hope for profit are found in American culture. The degree to which such exploitation is overlooked for what it is, in a rush to accumulate the evidence of a prosperous, and therefore, ostensibly “blessed” life, is astounding in Mormon culture. There are very specific and very real reasons for this…

Mormonism incubates its adherents in a social pressure cooker where a unique combination of spiritual, psychological, and philosophical ingredients are boiled into the inevitable psyche which emerges powerfully driven, to manifest the appearance of success while repressing conscious awareness of the moral thought processes by which that apparent success is achieved. To understand the philosophical breakdown of the Mormon psyche, one must first appreciate certain fundamental principles at the root of the healthy intelligent thought processes that must be seared out of the psyche of Mormon recruits as part of the process of rendering them exploitable by the church. Ironically, I have, so far in my studies, found that these principles have been best described by the great Muslim philosopher Mohammad Baqir Al Sadir, in his great and widely respected work, Our Philosophy. (al Sadir was murdered by Saddam Hussein for not endorsing his regime)

Al Sadir explains that three key elements of awareness emerge as the human psyche is born into existence in this human realm. These elements of awareness cannot be explained by the experiences of this human sojourn, but are, rather, key elements of perception by which we make sense of our sojourn and without which we would have no hope of intellectual development. These elements of awareness are causality, non-contradiction and harmony.

Nothing that we observe in this existence would be understandable on any meaningful level, explains Al Sadir, if not for our primordial awareness that the realities of the universe cannot be, and not be, simultaneously; have direct and indirect causal relationships; and exist within the constraints of inescapable cosmic balance. Without these fundamental and primordial elements of awareness, we may observe that rain falls from the sky and we may observe that the ground, at times, appears wet, but we cannot make the connection that the wetness of the ground is caused by the falling rain without an inherent primordial awareness of the principle of the meaningfulness of causal connections between the realities that we observe. We may observe that a rock falls to the earth when dropped and that smoke rises to the heavens, but we cannot extrapolate the ramifications of these consistently observable patterns without a primordial, pre-conscious, appreciation for the fact that the observable patterns themselves are meaningful as patterns and that the realities of the universe exist in harmoniously self reconciling realms manifested by the meaningfulness of the observable patterns. We may observe that a wild carnivorous beast will devour its prey to sustain its life, but this observable fact will be of no meaningful value in sustaining our lives without understanding the significance of the consistency of observable patterns. To survive, we must grasp the inherent dangers associated with expectations that rely on arbitrary explanations of observable patterns that defy the inherent harmonious balance of the universe with unwarranted contradictions of the underlying causal realities.

In the end of the day, not only the survival, but actually the morality and very sanity of man is dependent on the existence of and respect for these inherently fundamental elements of primordial awareness without which the process of independent intellectual development based on reasoning cannot exist. These elements of primordial awareness are inherently part of a healthy psyche before any observations are made because they are inescapable realities of the cosmos that make up the very existence that is us. It is by these elements of primordial awareness that we are capable of understanding what we observe. It is only by the application of these primordial elements of awareness that we are capable of the development of a useful base of knowledge by which we make sense of the universe within our purview and apply ourselves to successful management of the opportunities that the universe presents without the self destruction that would be otherwise assured.

What becomes of man, who is incapable of reasoning on his own with the inherent tools of reasoning that the cosmos has endowed us with? The Mormon philosophical experiment demonstrates with the entirely predictable consistency of these inescapable cosmic principles of reality, that a man, once stripped of his respect and appreciation for the essential applicability of these primordial principles, as governing anchors by which he processes not only his awareness of the universe within his purview but, as well, his self awareness, will be rendered an empty exploitable human shell of a being, capable only of conforming to the arbitrary expectations of his adopted social order without the capacity for truly independent consideration of his choices in any way that transcends the childish process of checking with his adopted external moral arbitrators for their validation and approval of the acceptability of his choices and behavior. Here is a dangerous man, fully capable of conforming to the ostensible behavior that perpetuates his accolades, but incapable of independent moral assessment of his choices, by reason of having long since abdicated his individual responsibility to apply the eternal cosmic principles of non-contradiction, causality, and harmony in his measurement and assessment of the realities of the universe that now include his own choices. He is a moral and intellectual dependant whose choices will not exceed the bounds of the comfort zone of his dependant conformity. He is incapable of the independence of thought and moral processing that is unfettered by the warped external demands of his adopted moral and spiritual authority figures.

Mormonism is an intensely corrupt philosophical system whose social order and objectives are precisely the exploitation of human conformists who have been stripped of their epistemological independence as described above. Clear, unmistakable, and glaring evidence of this is found in the contrived Mormon scripture, The Book of Mormon, foisted upon the naïve among us, as the word of God, while demanding the abdication of reason, itself, in favor of a childish, feeling based, emotional satisfaction that one’s conformity to the “commandments of God”, as interpreted by an arbitrarily self appointed priesthood, is the sole basis for the establishment of truth as truth, and morality as morality.

The Book of Mormon aggressively instills in its devotees, with example after example, that prosperity is the hallmark of worthiness before God, and that economic failure or humility is evidence of the unworthiness of those who must be humbled by God by not being prospered due to their unwillingness to conform to the “commandments” as arbitrarily dictated and interpreted by God’s priesthood. These commandments may be to murder on one day, as in the case of the Book of Mormon prophet, Nephi’s, justification for taking the life of Laban in order to fulfill the commandments of God to acquire a historical record of his family; or to lie on another day, as in the case of the several “eye witnesses” who were to bear testimony to having seen the golden plates from which the Book of Mormon was supposedly translated, notwithstanding the fact that Mormon historical records clearly indicate that it was conjured by Joseph Smith through the ridiculous and previously exposed process of glaring at a peep stone in a hat and dictating the text to accomplices to the deception referred to as scribes.

Ultimately, prosperity for one’s self and for the Church are the main “spiritual” pursuits of “God’s Kingdom” of devoted Mormon followers, the most worthy and devoted of which having partaken of solemn temple covenants of “consecration” in which they are placed under solemn oath to devote all of their life, time, and talents to the building up of the Kingdom of God (The Mormon Church). This, while abdicating the moral requirement of scrutinizing the reasonableness and moral and intellectual consistency of their thought processes in favor of adopting the first principle and commandment of the “Gospel” as taught in Mormon temples, which is obedience, ostensibly to God, but, as a practical matter, to God as interpreted by his exclusive agency on earth, the Mormon priesthood.

With the convenience of a “spiritual” exemption from the constraints of the moral and intellectual demands of the most fundamental cosmic elements of relevant awareness in assessing one’s own contradictions and the contradictions of one’s own borrowed morality, Mormonism places cultural demands of prosperity on its devotees and reinforces those demands with a “spiritually competitive” spirit of ostensible worthiness demonstrated by material prosperity and notable contributions to the building up of “Zion” that are an economic stretch for the average member, at best. Intense social pressure for success and successful contributions, both in devoted time, talents, and money, is unleashed while strict scrutiny of moral appropriateness is undermined and reduced to a few simple perfunctory temple worthiness questions, which, if answered correctly, satisfy the arbitrary priesthood as to the worthiness of the candidate not only for temple attendance, but for ultimate exaltation in the Kingdom of God.

I recall, some years ago, a prominent Presbyterian minister, also a dear friend, approached me and shared his dismay as the then, Mormon Mayor, had shared with him proudly, at a Christmas party, as he declined a social drink that was offered, exclaiming that alcohol had never touched his lips. He was proud of being a worthy temple attending Mormon who adhered to the “word of wisdom” which is the Mormon scriptural edict on the subject of alcoholic beverages. We were both aware that the same Mormon Mayor was being investigated for several counts of corruption. He was ultimately convicted on several felony counts of self dealing arising from his own personal pursuit of prosperity at the expense of his oath of office and the interests of his constituents and in the absence of a healthy moral compass independent of the approval of local priesthood leaders. His Mormon priesthood leaders were found criticizing, not the Mayor, but his critics for inappropriate gossip. A Mormon elder had represented the Mayor as his attorney and publically declared his innocence. He was associated with condemnations of the Mayor’s critics as engaging in politically motivated misrepresentations. He was advanced to the office of High Priest by his local Mormon leaders and called to be a Bishop. His slander of legitimate and honorable critics of the Mayor was, apparently, overlooked as a worthiness issue relevant to his advancement in the priesthood.

Today the world finds before it the ultimate manifestation of Mormon culture in my cousin, Mitt Romney, who seems inexplicably blind to the obvious credibility gap his public contradictions and the moral example of his chosen career at Bain Capital present us with. In an amusing commentary by Rachel Maddow, the MSNBC commentator, she repeatedly mused at the various obvious contradictions and inaccuracies that Mitt has been associated with, by posing the question, “What is that?”, in reference to his incapacity to acknowledge his mistakes and misrepresentations and inconsistencies. What is that, you ask, Rachel? That, my friend, is Mormon epistemology. Get used to it. There is a considerable risk that it will become the guiding philosophical principle by which the prospect of war and peace are managed on the planet.

Like it or Not, Mormonism IS a Cult

4 Sep

The definition of the term ‘cult’ as provided by the Merriam-Webster dictionary covers a variety meanings:

1 : formal religious veneration : worship
2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents
3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents

There are other definitions with regards to celebrity and health guru worship, but for the purpose of this article, I’d like to focus on the labeling of Mormonism as a cult simply by definition. It has been a bone of contention with many of my readers who feel I’ve assigned the term “cult” unfairly and malevolently to this faith. Here are a few traits attributed to a cult that Mormonism resembles rather strongly. Obviously, Mormonism is not the only cult, but when it’s thrust upon the mainstream by an ultra-devout Mormon like Mitt Romney, we should know as much about it as possible.

20120904-071137.jpg

Those raised within a cultist environment are influenced by the following as outlined by the International Cultic Studies Association.

1. Milieu control—the control of communication within an environment; this creates unhealthy boundaries.
Mormons (amongst other cult followers) are explicitly admonished NOT to read, watch, listen to, or discuss anything that the cult’s hierarchy would label “ANTI-Mormon.” Reading Kay Burningham’s “An American Fraud” or Park Romney’s The Apostasy of a High Priest or other non-sanctioned works is deemed a SIN, the work of the DEVIL. Only church-approved materials about the church are allowed. They would even frown on works that are not even aimed at Mormonism, but that nonetheless run contrary to its doctrines, such as Dawkins’ “The God Delusion” or Hitchen’s “God is not Great.” This IS controlling communication: it is called censorship. See Germany in the 1930′s if you’re not sure if this can end badly.

2. Mystical manipulation or “planned spontaneity”—experiences which appear to be spontaneous are actually orchestrated in order to demonstrate “divine authority,” which enables the leader(s) to use any means toward a “higher end” or goal
The cult also takes advantage of any “coincidence” to suggest divine purposes. So serendipitous, Mormons feel, the very day of the 150th anniversary of the church happened to also be General Conference, and Easter Sunday, and the profit (pun intended) Spencer W. Kimball directed the session and spoke to the membership NOT from the Tabernacle, but from the very room in Fayette, New York, where Joseph Smith started the church. Obviously, the event was planned, yet members came away with the impression that the entire cosmos had aligned on that very day as a testament that god is in control.

During World War 2, my friend’s ex Mormon father-in-law was hit by shrapnel. Coincidentally, the only affected areas were those unprotected by the sacred garments (magic underwear) and this was seen as the manifestation of their holy purpose. Of course outer extremities (he was hit in the arm) are always the most vulnerable, but this fantastical garbage is passed down to future generations as “proof” of divine intervention.

20120904-110812.jpg

Skin is sin. Are we evolving into a fundamentalist state like Saudi Arabia?

3. The demand for purity—absolute separation of good and evil within self and environment
The most pernicious and wide spread tool that the cult uses is that there is something “wrong” with YOU. If someone doubts, questions, leaves the cult, the automatic conclusion is that the person has “sinned” in some way: if not by having sex outside of marriage, or masturbating, or breaking the word of wisdom, of even not paying tithing, at least by “tempting the devil” by being exposed to anti-Mormon thinking. Combine this tortured logic with forbidding any vices common to humanity (drinking, smoking, porn consumption to name a few), you create an unattainable ideal which often fills members with unbearable guilt and feelings of iniquity.

4. The cult of confession—one-on-one or group confession of past and present “sins” or behaviors, which are often used to humiliate the confessor and create dependency upon
the leader
The most horrific example is when the Bishop and Stake President interrogate teens about masturbation. This is branded a sin, a perversion, “unworthy,” something that will lead to… wait for it… homosexuality. Make no mistake: what this does above all else is teach young people to LIE. They then LIE in the interviews to be ordained in successively higher offices in the priesthood, receive a patriarchal blessing, go to the temple, serve a mission, get married, then while married, etc., etc., etc. This, of course, adds to their inner GUILT and SHAME, for they know damned well that they are masturbating regularly, probably as much –if not more– than non-Mormons their age. Boyd K. Packer, Mormon prophet was famous for equating masturbation with inevitable contraction of the dreaded homosexuality.

5. Sacred science—the group’s teaching is portrayed as Ultimate Truth that cannot be questioned.

A personal account from Mark Larsen, former Mormon and Professor on the matter:

When I entered the mission home, they had all the missionaries gather in the “Solemn Assembly Room” in the SLC temple, where Ezra Taft Benson spoke to us. Afterwards, he allowed us to ask questions. One missionary raised his hand and asked: since the temple endowment session we just went through is a reenactment of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, what does that mean about evolution? Holy Hell! Did Benson ever chew him out! “What do you THINK it means?,” he yelled, pounding on the pulpit. “Men’s understanding is nothing compared to God’s… we are his children, his special creation, not descendents of monkeys..

I suppose that’s all that needs to be said on the matter. Sounds a bit like the Evangelical Christians denying evolution, because it doesn’t fit into their scripture.

6. Loading of the language—use of terms or jargon that have group-specific meaning, phrases that will keep one in or bring one back into the cult mindset.

Phrases that have jumped out at me include: Temple Recommend, Blood Atonement, Endowment,“Pay Lay Ale” and Consecration. These phrases unique to the cult seek to legitimize it.

7. Doctrine over person—denial of self and self-perception.

The Mormon religion demands obedience, as any religion does. Your sole function is for the betterment of the church. Untold sums of time and money are expected, sometimes in lieu of feeding your own family. The group is literally obsessed with bringing in new members, as is evidenced by the mandatory “Mission” Mormons serve dutifully in their late teens. The mission is not to actually help people through economic and educational assistance, the mission is to get more members (to tithe).
8. Dispensing of existence—anyone not in the group or not embracing the “truth” is insignificant, not “saved” or “unconscious”; the outside world and members who leave the group are rejected.
Did you know that everyone else in this world, all the non-Mormons like you, will end up in the “lower” of the three kingdoms (heavens) in the afterlife, except… the likes of “apostates” (like some of the folks I’ve cited). Mormons do believe there is a hell, but it is not fire-and-brimstone, no: it is complete isolation in utter darkness, alone and lonely, abandoned, forever and ever and ever and ever and ever throughout all eternity.
“The dangerous thing about Mormonism is that it is a false religion that masquerades as the only true and legitimate authority of God on Earth, and teaches, to its members, a deeply destructive epistemology that encourages blind obedience to an elitist ecclesiastical government known and well established over the years to be willing to lie to its members and the public in order to advance its own agenda.”-Park Romney. As evidenced, I really should not hesitate to refer to it as a cult, as Mormonism most certainly qualifies as such.

The GOP uses Stockholm Syndrome Strategy to Lure Voters

20 Aug

Given today’s extremist right wing ideology flooding the mainstream media, I associated the inexplicable appeal of the GOP to the concept of Stockholm Syndrome, and frankly it chilled me to the bone. Truly, these right wing ideologues have employed the psychological torment in just the right dose to lure voters to do their bidding. Stockholm Syndrome, by definition is: ‘is considered a complex reaction to a frightening situation. Many researchers believe that Stockholm syndrome helps to explain certain behaviors of survivors of World War II concentration camps; members of religious cults (i.e. LDS faithful); battered wives; incest survivors; and physically or emotionally abused children as well as persons taken hostage by criminals or terrorists.’ If you think 9-11 wasn’t used as an instrument of fear and control, you have no idea how powerful and manipulative the Republican party has become.

Hell, they’ve even dragged many Democrats down to their level in pursuit of manufactured conflict with little regard for the cost in blood and treasure, not to mention the financial devastation of much of the globe. One of the consequences, intended or not, was the collapse of the global financial market. When finances are paramount, as Napoleon Bonaparte said so presciently in 1815 ‘…Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain.’ That is precisely who this GOP party is today. A group operating under the guise of patriotism while possessing not a single ounce of it.

There are a few psychological manipulations the right wing employs to keep their devoted in line.

1. Religion: the concept of “you are born with original sin” implies a guilt right from the inception of life. This is a general unworthiness most religions employ to keep rank and file in their rightful place: in constant deference and awe of those deemed “rich” or worthy. Look at Willard Romney’s Mormon cult, in which he was a Stake President and Bishop who earned virtual godlike status with the power to excommunicate capriciously. Because he is wealthy and considered successful, regardless of the means employed, he is considered above the fray. Those in lower socioeconomic statuses are convinced they’ve earned their lot in life and should consider the wealthy more virtuous, even if they’ve been unscrupulous con-artists. It is masterful how they dupe poor, ignorant and largely religious folks in to thinking these objectives are in their best interests. Somehow they appeal to people’s fear of the unknown, the concept of eternal damnation (sans any evidence of its existence) and twists the teachings of Jesus (as he was portrayed at least) to worship the almighty dollar. This is also how the fear of negative publicity greatly outweighs the safety of young boys in the Catholic Church (and they’re usually the ones to pay such a dear price.) This is how Republicans keep their supporters in an abusive situation where they feel they are unworthy of a government that actually benefits them. They welcome the abuse. It is a hostage situation where the captured sympathize with their captors.

2.The GOP has become a political party that celebrates ignorance and derides education and relishes in its secrecy. They view government as the enemy, and the hiding of money from the public coffers is now considered a virtue…when you have a group of people that purposely set about to rig the system, they actually take great pride in being able to manipulate and avoid taxes and other patriotic obligations like serving in the military or keeping their vast fortunes in foreign tax shelters and not in American banks. When Reagan expressed his loathing of the concept of a government that actually helps people, which it had done for decades, the trust in the social structure shaped by centuries of political evolution was destroyed within a decade. This is like the hostage-takers being considered more trustworthy (i.e. health insurance companies) than the federal government (i.e. single-payer healthcare). I’m in awe of their resourcefulness in furthering their evil objectives. Simply look how Romney and Ryan are distorting the Medicare benefits and savings contained in the Affordable Care Act to look like they actually care if seniors aren’t truly pushed off a cliff. Make no mistake, these two monsters could care less if we throw grandma from the train.

3. Mind Control through the manipulation of the media and what’s taught or not taught in schools. They’ve even gone so far as to re-segregate schools, especially in the South! They’ve rewritten textbooks to even label the Ku Klux Klan as a positive organization who did more good than harm! They make one feel that anything beneficial to the average voter is considered lustful, forbidden or sinful while policies benefitting the power elite are deemed righteous, chaste and honorable. For example, why should a citizen have the same access to child care, medical care and education as someone who can more easily afford the finest in all these areas? Those at the top convince us they’re better than us, and more deserving of the best that money can buy. If one of us is lucky enough to escape our miserable lot in life, when we make our fortunes, we surely don’t want to have a tax policy that rewards the rest of society who created the means by which we could make our fortune and in return, paying it forward to those on the way up. We should keep it all and other unfortunates should not reap any benefits of MY prosperity. It’s what Jesus or (any of the other deities) would have wanted. They are no more than a means of control, and coming from the party inherently distrustful of authority, it seems almost paradoxical.

When the media is owned by over 90% right wing stations, there’s not much to compete with. We are out gunned by the army of idiots

To these numb nuts, patriotism means screwing the average voter so the plutocrats of this dreadful corporatocracy can grow unfettered. Regulations for the general health and well being of our citizens is very much secondary to profits. Safe working conditions, drinking water, air quality and the environment should never interfere with the bottom line. Any patriotic American knows the price to pay for cheap affordable natural gas obtained from hydraulic fracturing of the earth is worth it, no matter how flammable your tap water may be. Anyway, that’s the price you pay for supporting a gay uncle who insists he wants to get gay married. Your pastors have told you this is wrong, and no matter how much you want him to be happy, it just can’t be because he doesn’t fit under their interpretation of the Bible. You are forced to believe in a lie, and help perpetuate the myth that a few of us must live in shame. With their insane fundamentalist values, we have a self-perpetuating system of failure for the masses with a system that fosters prosperity at obscene levels for the Patrician class.

Millions of Mormons believe in the White Horse Prophecy which states that when the constitution is hanging by a thread, a Mormon on a shining WHITE horse will save us all. Willard has denied this, but it is deep within his self conscious. Sunday school and Mormon consecrations have ingrained this concept far within his “yet to be found” core of principles. Ok, that’s not fair. He has one principle and one only: To further the business of Mormon Inc. and garner as much power for his cronies and the Sheldon Adelsons of the world, first and foremost. This is what god would want. This type of thinking is very apparent in his utter omission of the word Veteran in his 59 page economic plan. I’m sure you’re not worried yet, but know that one simple conveniently staged Persian Gulf Operation could unexpectedly go awry, and will thrust us into another war of preemptive choice. The SNAFU that will be Iran, aka Sheldon’s War, will be far greater than any of our 2 Bush wars combined. Iran is a yak of a different color my friends. Perhaps all the teabaggers assume I R A Q is much like I R A N and it will not prove too difficult for our mighty military. This couldn’t be farther from the truth.

After all, we’ve gotta “fight them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here.’ We have to protect the Tagg Romney’s of the world from serving his country militarily when he had a higher calling to further the business bottom line of the Mormon Cult’s registration numbers. Willard even said, Tagg has a higher calling than country, his calling is to Joseph Smith or Brigham Young or whoever the polygamist de jour is to whom they are shelling out their tithes. They wish to allow Mormon Inc, Christian mega churches, and the Vatican (to name a few) the ability to put asses in the seats to maintain CONTROL over their followers. This is why atheists are so loathed by these people. We are foreign, think differently and represent a curious absence of fear of the unknown. This is troubling to fright-ridden zealots who can’t fathom a world that just “IS” and isn’t manipulated behind the scenes by an all powerful sky-daddy. We are simply not going to be duped in that manner. It’s not in our nature.

Perhaps a strategy yet untapped by us thinking liberals and progressives is the turning of fundamentalists and members of the LDS cult against each other. There is a deep seeded mistrust of the Utah gang and it is reciprocated rather seriously as well in the Beehive state towards those who are not “our kind”. Both religions, especially Mormonism, were very much into gender-based and racial discrimination. In 2012, there are still mass amounts of bigotry in the Mormon and the Christian systems of control. Because we lack a similar system of control and submission, we atheists are perceived to be immoral, yet are far less likely to engage in detrimental behavior to other human beings. We must hold fast in our unity to eventually triumph in the social/religious spectrum. Maybe we can evolve towards a day where an Atheist holds the office of the presidency, like they have in Australia. Wouldn’t that shake things up a bit? Maybe it would force the “pro-lifers” to actually be in favor of those already born!

We seem to hold the elite in the utmost regard, as they are perceived to be the most virtuous and successful in a society which rewards achievement, not the effort put forth my so many hard working Americans. Funny thing is, they convince voters to vote this way by appealing to their basal emotions of fear, suspicion and hate and it works phenomenally. It is our duty as citizens to make sure they don’t get away with stealing another election. It is just too important. I don’t need three more Justice Scalias on the bench. It will bring back the even more United Fascist States of America. After all, his daddy was the head of the Fascist-American Party back in the early 1930′s, so why not? Take a friend and VOTE! It’s our only hope to beat them at their own game. Don’t fall into the Stockholm Syndrome trap.

Nothing Bundt Cakes Joins Chick-Fil-A in Supporting Right Wing Politics

5 Aug

I was watching the Olympics yesterday, like many here were doing on a hot Vegas late afternoon and I happened to see a teaser for what the local NBC affiliate deemed newsworthy. Featured was a picture of a cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes, a franchised store based out of Las Vegas and now to found in over thirteen states, California having over thirty. The card on the cake was a direct insult to President Obama’s out of context quote “you didn’t build that.” The Mormon-owned store, never open anywhere on Sunday (because no one eats cake on that day), proudly displayed a card saying “you didn’t bake this”, on the President’s birthday of all days! Obviously they support Willard Romney with this regurgitation of his campaign’s latest blatant LIE. I have written extensively how the Mormon community supports their own to a fault. This bakery is just another example.

Nothing Bundt Hate in Las Vegas, Nevada

Let me guess, Nothing Bundt Cakes, you guys grew the sugar cane, the wheat flour and built all the roads to make and transport your products? I’m also wondering if you had much to do with laying down the phone lines your business uses quite frequently. Business in America is a collective effort. This is what President Obama meant and we are all socialist to a degree, like it or not. Myself and my family have patronized this store for years. Now you have definitely lost our business henceforth.

Chick-Fil-A started a controversy when CEO Dan Cathy stated with his biblical references how we are far too audacious to challenge God’s laws on the definition of marriage. Actually, Dan, there is no place in the bible that favors one form of marriage over another . But this pronouncement brought out all the GOPs hate merchants whose love for Type 2 Diabetes is greater than their love for human rights.

It seems I’m running out of businesses I can patronize. The moment I learn of a corporation’s unsavory political positions, I honestly can’t bring myself to spend a single dime in one of these establishments. It’s been several years since I learned of Wal-mart’s practice of paying employees so little most are still on welfare to simply survive, and I’ve yet to step foot in one.

20120805-115739.jpg

Wal-Mart pays workers so little, most employees are on welfare

Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores in the USA and Mexico have engaged in truly abhorrent treatment of all their lower echelon employees who do the majority of the grunt work. It’s pathetic how selfish the CEOs are to deny the workers healthcare and living wages while taking in record profits off virtual slave-labor.

The great taste or convenience a business provides is far less important than their treatment of humanity. I will easily find other replacements for these stores who feel its important for the public to know who they support politically. Willard Romney’s Bain Capital has a vast history of destroying lives in exchange for obscene profits, just like the aforementioned corporations. I refuse to be a vehicle for hate to flourish and I hope more will join me in boycotting these right-wing businesses permanently.

A Racist Double Standard has Infected America Since Obama Took Office

28 Jul

If you believe we’ve overcome centuries of slavery and decades of racial segregation in this country simply by electing President Obama, you are sadly misguided. There are still sickening displays of abysmal tolerance, bigotry and blatant racism to be found.

20120728-125234.jpg

Caldwell, Idaho billboard

This latest insane advertisement is proudly on display in the predominantly Mormon state of Idaho. The city of Caldwell displays this atrocity to further their racist agenda. Feel free to recall when a similar billboard was erected with a comparison to George W. Bush. I certainly cannot. There were a multitude of awful mass shootings towards the end of Bush’s reign of terror and yet none of these sociopaths were compared to Bush or his gun-toting cohort, Dick Cheney. The number of deaths from the Iraq war alone were far greater than reported by the media, but no one in the mainstream media EVER dared to accuse the Bush Administration of having murderous intentions.

Apparently, if the president has thus far been responsible for far fewer deaths but has the audacity to also be black, that’s a totally different story. When a Republican is president, any and every action done on the world stage is considered “defense” and “keeping us safe”. When President Obama tries to withdraw our troops and generally draw down superfluous military conflicts, he is a murderer. It’s a double standard of Herculean proportions. Drone strikes on sworn enemies in pursuit of nuclear arms are murder but attacking an entire country that had nothing whatsoever to do with 9/11 is considered “The War on Terror?”

Let me remind you of this latest barrage of insults made by the entitled Anglo-Saxon candidate representing the right wing Teabaggers and Birthers which reaffirms the GOP’s desire to play the race card whenever possible. It is apparently the red meat their bloodthirsty far right craves for sustenance.  In England, Willard and his entourage claimed a closer connection to the U.K. because, let’s face it folks, they represent the white guy. Besides, Barack Obama just sounds too foreign to be “American.”

A common sight in Red State America: Birther Inspired Hate Billboards

Perhaps you also believe we’ve achieved equal civil rights since the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Jim Crow laws have been deemed illegal and we’d like to think segregation would be positively offensive. Nostalgics don’t despair, Mississippi is still keeping hate alive. A predominantly white Baptist Church in this bastion of tolerance has threatened to fire the pastor of the church if he wed a black couple. This actually happened in 2012.  I’m stunned.

20120728-195651.jpg

Chrystal Springs Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi

I recently saw a bumper sticker here in Nevada that said “100% Real American.” Coincidentally, the vehicle also had a Ron Paul decal on the same bumper. I find the racially-based motivations of the Republican party in this country disgusting, dangerous and destructive to all the progress we’ve made in the last century. If only the media would expose this blatant double standard that exists when dealing with our first Black President and many of the “minorities” in this country, we might be able to match other Western Democracies for the civil and human rights we are still lacking.

Politically Speaking, Australia Kicks America’s Ass

27 Jul

Another guest blog by Derek Wood, a resident of Sydney, NSW, Australia.  Follow him on twitter @Main_Man.

As a country Australia is very similar to the US.  Both have historical British influences, geographically they are large countries, English is the main language albeit with some idiosyncrasies and, more importantly, both countries have been built on the back of migration and multiculturalism.

Despite this, politically there are a number of differences.  I should point out that Australia’s population of 21.5 million is extremely small when compared to 311 million in the US.  This can obviously make a difference when it comes to political observations and activities. In America, presidential campaigns cost a large amount of money.  Hundreds of millions of dollars are raised by both the Republicans and Democrats.  This, in turn, is used to publicise the policies and candidates of both parties with a view to gaining your vote.  I have often wondered, as have many other westerners, if the money raised through political donations was put into hospitals, schools and other public services then how much better a society America would be.

Australian Prime Minister (& atheist) Julia Gillard and President Obama

Religion seems to play an important part in US politics.  Any potential Presidential candidate has to show that they are a Christian of some description.  This shows them to be God fearing and obviously appeals to the very large religious followings within the country.  Woe betides an atheist or, say, a Hindu who has a desire to become the President.   The Republican Party certainly have the conservative religious voters in their pockets.  Given that America is the land of the free where there seem to be excesses on every New York street corner, it appears strange that the religious vote is so strong.

The gun lobby is extremely powerful in political circles in the US.  I have no idea how many guns are owned by US citizens, or even how many gun clubs there are in America.  I do know, however, it is in the US constitution that a citizen has a right to bear arms to defend themselves, and buying a gun can be a fairly easy experience.   Considering restrictions on gun ownership appears to be akin to political suicide to us outsiders.

One of the most baffling things about US politics is how important it is to have been a Vietnam veteran.  As time passes by this is changing.  John McCain used his Vietnam veteran status to his advantage during the last presidential campaign.  Why is it so important to the average American voter?  It just seems so strange.  Later on, will the words “Gulf War veteran” be used to similar effect? Time will tell.

These are just some of the ingredients that goes into politics US style.  How does this compare to a country like Australia? Hopefully, the following will uncover this.

Australia is situated in the Southern Hemisphere with the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other side.  The capital is Canberra (not Sydney) where Parliament sits.  It is a large country and if you were to drive from Sydney in the east to Perth in the west, it would roughly take 3 days!

Australia has two main parties the Australian Labor Party (think Democrats) and the Liberal/National Party coalition (think Republicans).   Political donations are received through fund raising and also private donations.  All donations over an amount (I think it is $10,000) have to be disclosed.  Advertising is through a few television advertisements and leaflet drops.  All up about $160m was spent during the 2010 election.  Australians also do not like to be bombarded with lots of political information.  It turns them off.  So both parties have to be extremely clever as to what audiences they target and how.

Religion plays little, or no influence in Australian politics.  In fact, to play the religious card would probably lose you votes. Our current Prime Minister is an atheist.  She is unmarried and lives with her partner Tim Mathieson.   Nobody is really fazed by this here.  Also, the finance minister, Penny Wong, is openly gay.  Again, it has not been a hindrance to her political progression.  Generally sexual preferences are accepted by the vast majority.  Just out of interest, the Latter Day Saints religion accounts for 0.3% of all religions Down Under.

This kind of nonsense isn’t permitted in Australia

We do not have a large gun lobby here in Australia. To get a gun is extremely hard and a number of personal checks must be undertaken before a gun licence is granted.  In rural areas and farming communities you will find the odd shotgun or two.  We do not experience the type of gun tragedies like you experience in the US.  It is not part of the Australian psyche, anyway.

Australians served in the Vietnam War and virtually every military action that has occurred over the past 100 plus years.  Yes the veterans were treated badly upon their return like they were in America.  However, to use this as a political tool would never happen.  Australians are generally too laid back and would not pay too much attention if a political candidate had served in Vietnam or elsewhere.

Even though our countries share a number of commonalities, we are different in our approach to the political process.  I am certainly not saying that the Australian way of doing politics is the best way, but just to point out what occurs Down Under.  In truth there probably isn’t an ideal political process anywhere in the world.  However, the one in Australia is vastly different to the American one.

It’s pretty apparent their population is a bit easier to manage, but they have certainly limited the corruption in politics a helluva lot better than we have.  Thanks to Derek for his valuable insight!  (VegasJessie)

Prayer Should Really Exit the Political and Medical Arena

23 Jul

Why is it there’s a Prayer Invocation delivered by clergy at every presidential inauguration? In a secular society, where it’s best not to mingle religion and politics, invocations do nothing but cause controversy and disharmony. Who should give the prayer? What should they say? Should any and all religions be invited to give an invocation? And for what purpose?

20120722-200656.jpg

Saddleback Pastor Warren and President Obama 2009

Perhaps I’m overly sensitive to public prayer ceremonies because they stand contrary to my anti-theistic views. I think if one MUST pray, do so in private. Indeed, it is even a matter of scripture that should be honored. Jesus was not a fan of public displays of prayer, as it is written in Matthew, 6:6 – But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. So if we are indeed a Judeo-Christian Nation, why are we publicly mocking Jesus’ teachings by blatantly engaging in very public displays of prayer?

Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren delivered the invocation at the very same inauguration of President Obama where Chief Justice Roberts botched the oath of office delivery. However, after Rick Warren’s comments blaming the Aurora massacre on the teaching of evolution, I’d say he was the worst mistake of President Obama’s big day in 2009.

In addition to Warren, we have this delectable creature, Reverend Newcombe. Jerry Newcombe, Evangelical Leader, Says Only Christian Victims Of Colorado Shooting Going To Heaven. He uttered this completely made up nonsense:“If a Christian dies early, if a Christian dies young, it seems tragic, but really it is not tragic because they are going to a wonderful place.. on the other hand, if a person doesn’t know Jesus Christ.. if they knowingly rejected Jesus Christ, then, basically, they are going to a terrible place.” How compassionate you are, Jerry. If someone believes differently than you, they are condemned to eternal suffering, no matter how innocent they are? Nice god you worship! Preachers like these two monsters ought to stay quiet if they feel the need to offend victims and their families. These “preachers” are completely disgraceful!

Our own GOP candidate, Willard Romney offered his condolences by reading straight from some sort of Bible. Perhaps it was the Book of Mormon? Who knows? All I could tell you was he sounded like a religious leader and NOT a presidential candidate of the United States, where we have freedom of and from religion!

Prayer itself is not harmful per se, but using it to supplant science and medicine can be fatal. There was a case in 2009 in Wisconsin where a couple prayed for their undiagnosed diabetic daughter instead of taking her to a much needed hospital. The case will now be heard by the Supreme Court of the United States. I hope they are not let off as easy at the federal level as they were in Wisconsin.

20120723-070450.jpg

The U.S. Supreme Court Justices

Then there’s another sick story out of Texas where a three day-old infant was also prayed over when it fell ill. The infant was dead for fifteen hours before authorities were called. The family members were “church elders” which means they were, I guess, more connected to god?

The massive increases of whooping cough and other previously eradicated diseases has spiked in the last few years because parents cite religious reasons for not vaccinating children, which endangers ALL PEOPLE. There’s got to be a point where we treat prayer and private religious beliefs as private and completely leave them out of public politics and society. When there’s any kind of proof, scientific proof, prayer actually does any good, then we can bring it back on a limited basis. Since that’s not going to happen anytime soon, I say, leave your gods and prayers out of my government! They’re doing anything but helping.

Americans for Prosperity Embarrass Themselves in Nevada

20 Jul
20120719-213526.jpg

Americans for Prosperity Bus

They arrived in a large logo-wrapped bus with idiotic proclamations about Nevada Democratic Congresswoman, Shelly Berkley, who is running for Senate in November against Teabagger, Dean Heller. Proclaiming fake outrage with statements like “Supported Obamacare,” “Supported Dodd Frank” “Vetoed the Keystone Pipeline” and “Supported the Stimulus,” these faux grassroots supporters rolled in to Vegas around 7:45 am on Thursday, July 19th. They set up camp in an adjacent parking lot, pitching a tent in front of the parked bus right near the Sahara In-N-Out Burger. It appeared they had six or seven “supporters” who we’re actually paid operatives from Americans for Prosperity. An unbelievably large bus that seemed to carry so few. The Democratic group of actual volunteers assembled nearby right in front of Congresswoman Berkley’s office. Our numbers were rapidly growing. It was now 8:00.

20120719-215735.jpg

Our Democratic Protestors

Representing various unions, Moveon.org, several citywide Democratic Clubs, Sun City Retirees and Latinos for Obama, just to name a few, we began to march over with our hilarious signs. “Get the Heller out of Nevada”, “Toss the Teabags” or my personal favorite, “Bigots on the Bus Welcome Center” were a few of the notables. We were a diverse, jovial and highly motivated group determined to stop these Koch fascists from taking over our state! Our biggest strength was in numbers. Probably 200 of us marched over to their sad “group” of protestors which included an old toothless man carrying a “Breitbart Is Here” sign and a stereotypical Teabagger wearing a Dean Heller tea-shirt. There were a few other white folks who kept getting in and out of the bus. None were making any real noise, so they started playing their hillbilly music.

20120720-001441.jpg

One of their six or seven paid operatives

20120720-022809.jpg

A Dean Heller supporter (there was only one)

This was the best they could do? These “second amendment remedy” enthusiasts are afraid this “Un-American” President will take away their freedoms? They were regurgitating the usual Fox News talking points, naturally. So a few in our diplomatic crowd asked some questions of the paid shills. One woman said she believed President Obama will dissolve our three party system and implant himself as a dictator. Another misguided soul thought Shelly Berkley herself had several offshore accounts. Projecting again, GOP?

But the real kicker was when we saw a an AFP (Americans for Prosperity) man paying five migrant workers, perhaps from Mexico, a total of $50.00 to wear their AFP t-shirts and walk the crowd as if they were supporters. Obviously this was seen by enough folks that it was a futile gesture on their part. Even their annoyingly loud country music could not drown out our protest. Our side was just kicking ass with our large numbers and genuine enthusiasm. A truly successful bitch-slapping of the useless TeaParty. Thankfully, there was no violence from their side. Our side only had peaceful intentions, but in light of the Aurora Colorado tragedy, I suppose this could have ended much worse. Instead, we had a wonderful time literally running this well-funded fake grassroots group out of town. The LVMPD (Las Vegas Police) eventually told these folks to move their bus out.

20120720-030053.jpg

Calling out the racists of the TeaParty

Even with their efforts to mobilize some “patriotic” Conservatives with all their money and gigantic bus, they simply looked as ridiculous as the TeaParty Congress behaves every day. Perhaps this whole country can unite and defeat this blight on our nation. We’re trying to keep our beloved Nevada blue and I’m certain we will be triumphant.

My heart goes out to those in Aurora, Colorado on this sad Friday. I hope gun control is taken more seriously now, but I doubt it. The NRA Lobby is just too powerful. Naturally, it’s a big part of the TeaParty, so maybe if they disappear, the NRA will finally be seen as the racist, terrorist group they truly are and lose some of their influence. We can only hope.
