Dr. Ben Carson is the new poster boy for the Right Wing Conservative movement. He is the total package for a party that desperately needs a new face: an African-American neurosurgeon who is an outspoken social and fiscal conservative who denounces the entire apparatus of government. At this year’s National Prayer Breakfast, he condemned the welfare state and the growing acceptance of marriage equality likening it to bestiality and NAMBLA.

It seems he joins the ranks of so many Conservatives who are part of the Slippery Slope brand of thinking. Once you allow gay marriage, what’s next? Marrying children, animals, inanimate objects…..heaven knows what’s next!? Their ultra-fundamentalist biblical way of thinking has perverted so many into adopting this false equivalency of marriage equality leading to pedophilia or bestiality. Watch his interview with Hannity.

What makes this man such a paragon of Republican virtue is how he loathes the entire welfare and government assistance that afforded him his current success. Carson has said, by the time I reached ninth grade, mother….received nothing but food stamps. She couldn’t have provided for us and kept up the house without that subsidy.” “As I’ve said, we received food stamps and couldn’t have made it without them.” Carson, in his book, tells how his grades improved tremendously when a government program provided him with free eyeglasses because he could barely see. Now he derides the “welfare state” and has decided “no one is starving in America” and that government dependence kills initiative.

What’s even more bizarre about this guy is his use of the term NAMBLA. In case you’re unaware of why this is so odd, the creators of South Park even devoted an entire episode to the North American Man/Boy Love Association. It is the most ridiculous comparison of two consenting adults marrying to an insane organization devoted to pedophilia. How can a “brilliant neurosurgeon” think so illogically when it comes to social matters? I suppose the answer is rather simple. He’s a Republican.

A few weeks ago, I ran into an old acquaintance from Connecticut, who was in our fair city for a few days. The first thing he told me was how absolutely bizarre Las Vegas seemed as to display numerous gigantic billboards advertising the opportunity to fire an automatic firearm. For someone from the eastern seaboard, this is rather anomalous.

Billboards like this one are very common in Las Vegas, Nevada

In light of the obvious mass shooting tragedy that has rocked the civilized world, especially New England, any reasonable person visiting the City of Sin would find it callous and objectionable to glorify this type of weaponry. I told him this is rather de rigueur here and it doesn’t even phase most residents. Las Vegas has much the same attitude as many Red State (or purple in Nevada’s case) attitudes where guns are considered a right and a necessity for the über paranoid who have been hypnotized to believe President Obama is on a Marxist bender to disarm the nation. The Obama administration and his Leftist Army is trying to make the government so invasive, he wants to demand everyone must eat broccoli or arugula and join the New Black Panthers while paying for lazy welfare queens to go to Planned Parenthood for weekly abortions.

As utterly irrational as this may sound, it is not much of a stretch for a few towns in the South. Nelson, Georgia, population 1,300 is labeled “a liberal’s worst nightmare” because they have mandated every head of household own and maintain a firearm. Republicans hate big government and despise any invasion into their personal freedoms. But let’s look at their record of trying to mandate their way into our private lives. If they are offended by government simply trying to keep Americans safe from all-too-frequent massacres, one would think they’d be outraged at the government controlling religious freedom, reproductive health and interpersonal adult relations, right? A reasonable, logical person would think so, but we are talking about the GOP.

Indiana, one of the most Republican states in the country, has put forth a bill to mandate praying in the classroom. The recitation of The Lord’s Prayer has been proposed by an Indiana State Senator. “…The governing body of a school corporation or the equivalent authority of a charter school may require the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer at the beginning of each school day. The prayer may be recited by a teacher, a student, or the class of students.” Obviously the precious First Amendment would be completely dismantled by this idea, but as long it doesn’t restrict an American’s right to own weapons that can shoot 152 bullets in 5 minutes, it’s “on the table.”

New kid on the block and Republican heckler, Senator Ted Cruz (Tx), had the audacity to suggest restricting the types of guns one can own is equivalent to outlawing certain types of books. The false equivalency of the lethality of guns versus possession of certain books elucidates the perverted machinations of Cruz’s mind, which clearly is lost. In case you missed his pernicious exchange with the Democratic Senator, Diane Feinstein (CA) yesterday, here it is:

None of these small government advocates have a problem mandating teachers be armed in the classroom as well. They discard studies that show an increase in firearms is directly proportionate to an increase in firearm-related homicides. Several states have proposed laws to arm teachers and one has even passed legislation practically demanding teachers be armed, as is the case now in South Dakota.

On the issue of women’s health and reproductive freedom, the GOP has been incredibly diligent at legislating their way into the bodies of women, who comprise roughly half the population, no big deal. The anti-abortion bills put on the floor for a vote in the House alone exponentially outnumbers the jobs proposals by Republicans. But it’s even worse in the state governments run by Republicans where they’ve virtually wiped out affordable and safe abortion for poor women, especially in Arkansas, Mississippi, South Dakota and Michigan. Lest we forget the redefining of a violent act like rape and the transvaginal ultrasound probe requirement many Republicans have supported as mandatory to any abortion procedure, even when the woman is a victim of a sexual assault. This gross interpretation of freedom cost many Republicans their seats in the 2012 election, but it seems these folks have a very short memory, much like a goldfish I presume.

Today, Ohio Senator Rob Portman proclaimed his support and reformed attitude towards marriage equality. He professed how his support for love and acceptance as depicted in the Bible supersedes the traditional definition of marriage also known as DOMA, which was signed into law in 1996 but is slowly becoming highly unpopular and downright offensive to forward thinking Americans.

Do not despair, CPAC 2013 has a unique way of portraying America as hate-filled and intolerant as some of the fine speakers they showcase every year. Florida Tea-party darling Senator Marco Rubio (R) preached his usual science-denying climate change is unproven and a zygote is more important than the mother who carries it garbage. “The people who are actually closed-minded in American politics are the people who love to preach about the certainty of science with regards to our climate but ignore the absolute fact that science has proven that life begins at conception.”

Mandates like trying to keep people from drinking too much sugary soda and insurance companies paying for contraception have the right wing in a frenzy. But if you force an Atheist, Hindu or Muslim to recite a Christian prayer, force a woman to have an unwanted child, prevent two loving adults from marrying or allow a mentally unstable individual the right to purchase assault rifles, you are simply following god’s law and doing the work of Republican Jesus. Mandates are only wrong when they don’t make Wayne LaPierre wealthier. Perhaps this is why these guys are outraged over the shut down of White House tours; because deep down inside, in that last microscopic shred of humanity, the GOP realizes they won’t ever see the inside of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue any time soon. Elections will be theirs to lose if they continue on this path, and I’m sure not going to stop them!

The following is a letter sent to Representative Joe Heck (R-NV) written by a Henderson, Nevada business owner. Her letter was well stated and addressed the important issues the House has ignored since the midterm elections. She naturally received a form letter in return, not specifically addressing any of these problems. Here is her letter.

To Representative Heck:

Is there any chance you can help with these topics?
- Filibuster limitations/restrictions or, Congress has to physically stand there and filibuster, not just threaten it countless times.
- Campaign finance reform/disclosure – A foreign company can literally infiltrate/buy our election and we wouldn’t know it.
- Agree to let the Bush tax cuts expire and then introduce a middle class tax cut that everyone would certainly vote for.
- A uniform national voting standard: Everyone should run their elections like Nevada. Our polling stations were efficient and hassle-free and the early voting couldn’t have been easier. Why would we not link up our DMV with voter registration, that way, if you move you still are registered and it’s automatically in the system, instead of having to remind people to re-register. The current system is archaic! Voting rights should be the same, no matter what state you live in.
- Please also tell me that you are not for defending “traditional” marriage. We need to be about equal rights and be accepting of who people are, instead of pushing a religious belief onto others. We are a nation founded on secular principles and no one’s freedoms should be limited by a state-sanctioned, religiously motivated laws.
- A very radical but a more ethical system would be for insurance companies in every area including health, to be non-profit industries. They should not have the incentive of profit to make decisions that would negatively affect someone’s life. Also, if a religious workplace doesn’t want to allow birth control to be covered due to their beliefs, then as an employer, can I state I don’t believe in immunizations, therefore everyone who works for me cannot get immunizations covered? Both matters are important to people of different religions, so can we cherry pick which services are covered by insurance? When we put it in these terms, it kind of sounds preposterous, doesn’t it?

-Lastly, as a “job creator,” I NEVER make hiring decisions based on taxes, the decision is ALWAYS based on demand. Increased demand only comes from a strong middle class. PERIOD. TRICKLE DOWN DOES NOT WORK… NEVER HAS NEVER WILL.

This next point was added by Cassandra after the letter was sent, so I thought I’d include it.
-Instead of talking about the deficit we should be talking about the fairness deficit and we should be pass a financial speculation tax- 3 trillion over 10 years, repeal capital gains tax break, limit deductions for high earners- people say it can’t all be done on the revenue side?? As Joe Biden would say, MALARKY! The attached graphic from “Up” with Chris Hayes illustrates ways to accomplish deficit reduction without punishing the poorest citizens among us.

These issues are very important to me as a small business owner, mother of four and a community organizer.

Thank you for working with others to accomplish legislation that will help regular people, not just the very rich and the big corporations.

Dear Ms. Rice,

Thank you for contacting me with your comments regarding the partisan attitude in Washington. I strongly share your concerns and appreciate the opportunity to respond to you on this important issue.

I understand the American people are frustrated with the direction of our country and angry about Washington’s out-of-touch responses to the challenges families and businesses are facing. I ran for the House of Representatives so that I could work to change business-as-usual in Washington. Representatives are elected to be accountable to the people and must understand the impacts that their decisions will have upon our country. I’d like to share a few examples of my bipartisan work in Congress.

You may be interested to know that I have introduced a number of bills that have received bipartisan support to help create jobs and restore certainty to our economy. In an effort to reduce the cost of energy and promote the use of clean and renewable energy, I introduced H.R. 470, the Hoover Power Allocation Act of 2011, which passed both houses of Congress with strong bipartisan support and has been signed into law (P.L. 112-72). H.R. 470 authorizes the continued allocation of clean, renewable electricity to southern Nevada from the Hoover Dam until 2067. This legislation is essential to the millions of consumers who invested in this renewable source of energy over the past 75 years because it will continue providing them with Hoover power and allow new customers to benefit from this low-cost, clean energy. I am a strong supporter of clean renewable energy, and have supported a number of measures from members on both sides of the aisle to promote renewable energy in Nevada.

In order to help create jobs in Nevada, I have introduced H.R. 3039, the Welcoming Business Travelers and Tourists to America Act. My bill has received strong support from members of both parties and will allow for a more efficient tourist and business traveler visa process and address the systemic backlog of applications, all without reducing security protocols. As you know, Nevada’s economy greatly depends on the continuance and expansion of tourism and international travel, and improving the efficiency of America’s visa application process will stimulate job growth in Nevada and generate billions in revenue for our state.

We also need to address the housing sector of the economy and help homeowners. In Nevada, almost 400,000 homeowners are currently underwater on their mortgages. Because of this, I believe that homeowners should have both options and resources available to keep them in their homes and avoid foreclosure. That is why I was the only member of my party who voted against H.R. 830, the FHA Refinance Program Termination Act. This bill would eliminate a program that allows for those who are current on their mortgages, but underwater, the ability to refinance. I was also one of only two Republicans who voted against H.R. 839, the HAMP Termination Act, which would have eliminated a program used by many Nevadans affected by the downturn in the housing market. Taking away programs that help homeowners who are trying to do the right thing is not the answer.

I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to give Nevadans the country they deserve. It is my honor to represent Nevadans in the House of Representatives and I will continue to do so with honor and integrity. My responsibility is, and always has been, to the constituents of the 3rd District of Nevada.

He presented nothing new or nothing of any practical application, which is unfortunately consistent with the platform of his party’s Presidential candidate (Willard Romney). There is nothing mentioned about eliminating the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy, repairing our health care system or equal rights. These matters don’t seem to concern the Republican party. Maybe if everyone sent their Representative something like this, we would make progress. Feel free to use any part of this post if you wish!

Perhaps Massachusetts’ flirtation period with the GOP is in its twilight. Current Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick (D) said, “I can tell you,…he was a great salesman who was more interested in having the job than doing it,” describing Mitt Romney’s tenure as Governor of the New England Commonwealth. This seems to be the same attitude he possesses about the job at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. He wants the power, but really has no intention of using it to benefit the majority of his “subjects.”

This was a man who never concerns himself with minutia like the passage of bills to fund the prevention of hate crimes, he’d rather keep his state on a par in job creation with then Katrina-ravaged Louisiana . While governor, the state’s total job growth was just 0.9 percent, well behind other high-wage, high-skill economies in New York (2.7), California (4.7), and North Carolina (7.6). The national average, meanwhile, was better than 5 percent. Dismal as these numbers are, what’s more telling is Romney’s current poll numbers in his “home” state. President Obama leads Romney 60 percent to 38 percent in the Bay State, a veritable beat down of epic proportions, a pummeling he richly deserves. This similar performance by his TeaParty darling supporter, Senator Scott Brown shows just how little these men care for the state they so poorly represent.

Senator Scott Brown and Willard Romney

Although he is trying to distance himself from Romney’s 47% remark at a private fundraiser, he has shown he holds a similar world view. He’s a pro-big oil, anti-women, anti-welfare, teabagging Conservative who seems to be losing his allure. He recently proclaimed Justice and Fascist Antonin Scalia as his favorite member of the Supreme Court.

Massachusetts has an abysmal record of electing women in US Senate races, as there has never been a female Senator from the state. Remarkably, his opponent, Elizabeth Warren, has a lead in most polls. If Massachusetts has more sense than the folks in Missouri poised to elect legitimate rape advocate, Todd Akin (R), we should, by all accounts, see the first female Senator from the state. Even with the ugliness of the racial attack on her Cherokee heritage, she still has a fight on her hands that the rest of the country is watching closely.

It seems Massachusetts has gambled with Republicans in the state whose politics has been primarily formed by a Kennedy legacy of service. JFK, RFK and Ted Kennedy, among other greats from the state, have served their populace with dignity and consideration. These nouveau right wing figure heads who have shown nothing more than a politicians look with zero substance are perhaps just a blemish on the Democratic history of Massachusetts. The state was and still is a great voice in a democracy that has no use for shallow, morally bankrupt men like Willard Romney and Scott Brown.

As a woman fortunate enough to have had an upbringing where I was always taught that women and men are equals, I’d like to presume the First Lady of my country would instill similar values in other American girls. If her speech at the Republican National Convention showed her true feelings on the matter of feminine equality, it’s painfully obvious Ann Romney believes a woman should know her place, which is in the role of dutiful wife and doting mother. She firmly believes in the supremacy of men just as her adopted Mormon cult dictates. After all, a Mormon woman can only enter the gates of the celestial kingdom with the consent of her husband. Any woman exhibiting desires eschewed by the values ascribed by the Mormon cult is simply anomalous to her entitled and privileged way of life. She is perhaps the worst spokesman for the twenty-first century American female there ever was.

Ann Romney firmly believes a woman should unequivocally be a partner to a man, both in this life and the still unproven hereafter. Not only did she fail to acknowledge women in ANY professional capacity in her RNC speech, she failed to <del><del><del></del></del></del>acknowledge single, lesbian or childless women (to name a few) as integral female members of a productive society. She’s so averse to answering questions regarding her own professional aspirations , she cancels any interview inquiring on the matter. Although raised largely without formal religion, (Episcopalian with a touch of atheism) she believes what the Mormon scriptures profess: By bearing and nurturing children, women are saved because they have learned to perform Heavenly Mother’s work. In other words, women truly have no other earthly function than to serve the man and bear him children. This is very similar to the Muslim faith. The role of the Muslim woman is clearly defined and outlined in Islam. In short her primary role is with the upbringing of her children and in being a dutiful wife. A woman’s job, in her worldview, is to be simply a mother and wife above all things. Funny how similar the two faiths are, much to the disapproval of unbeknownst Republicans. Ann’s very own atheist father Edward Davies was baptized into the Mormon Church posthumously, something he would definitely have objected to while alive. Her arrogance and presumption prevent her from seeing just how offensive this is.

She serves her husband also by staunchly defending his right to leading a privileged and entitled existence, free from the customary scrutiny thrust upon the life of a presidential candidate. “Have you seen how we’re attacked?,” Ann Romney said in an interview in mid August, hitting the table with her hand for emphasis. “Have you seen what’s happened?…. “It will just give them more ammunition.” These are the words of a wealthy corporate wife who is outraged her husband is under the microscope while running for the most powerful elected office on earth. She’s assuming they’ll be attacked further if they release more, so that pretty much means there’s something in those returns that’s worthy of “attack” — at least by folks who are paying taxes at a much higher rate, who are perhaps keeping their monies in these United States. “Stop it. This is hard, you wanna try it, get in the ring,” she whined earlier this week following the legendary Mother Jones video of Mitt Romney showing a rare candid example of the contempt he shows for low income Americans and the futility of garnering their vote. She was quoted by a few ladies close to her as having said “My horse has more style and more class in its hoof than they (Democrats) do in their whole deal.” Clearly this couple cares little for the middle class and their disdain is starting to manifest itself everytime they open their mouths.

(Not an actual Michelle Obama quote)

Willard Romney believes his wife is his spokesperson for “what women want”. Unfortunately, women are not the monolithic wealthy, corporate white woman Mitt believes Ann is a typical representative. Perhaps Willard’s experience as a fairly omnipotent LDS “prophet” throughout much of his life has shielded him from the reality that the world is nothing like his sanitized view of entitled corporate personhood. It is very apparent she too doesn’t see the forest through the trees when it comes to women’s real world issues. Not every girl aspires to be a stay at home mom, not every girl can be that person for a myriad reasons. Frankly, this woman becoming First Lady is a gigantic leap backwards of all the progress women made in the twentieth century. Actually, given the obvious Republican war on women, what better representative for their antiquated Puritanical views on women than Queen Ann? If America elects this entitled couple it’s because of one of two reasons: they’ve suppressed the vote sufficiently or we’re so unbelievably ignorant as a people, we deserve this impending nightmare.

I was watching the Olympics yesterday, like many here were doing on a hot Vegas late afternoon and I happened to see a teaser for what the local NBC affiliate deemed newsworthy. Featured was a picture of a cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes, a franchised store based out of Las Vegas and now to found in over thirteen states, California having over thirty. The card on the cake was a direct insult to President Obama’s out of context quote “you didn’t build that.” The Mormon-owned store, never open anywhere on Sunday (because no one eats cake on that day), proudly displayed a card saying “you didn’t bake this”, on the President’s birthday of all days! Obviously they support Willard Romney with this regurgitation of his campaign’s latest blatant LIE. I have written extensively how the Mormon community supports their own to a fault. This bakery is just another example.

Nothing Bundt Hate in Las Vegas, Nevada

Let me guess, Nothing Bundt Cakes, you guys grew the sugar cane, the wheat flour and built all the roads to make and transport your products? I’m also wondering if you had much to do with laying down the phone lines your business uses quite frequently. Business in America is a collective effort. This is what President Obama meant and we are all socialist to a degree, like it or not. Myself and my family have patronized this store for years. Now you have definitely lost our business henceforth.

Chick-Fil-A started a controversy when CEO Dan Cathy stated with his biblical references how we are far too audacious to challenge God’s laws on the definition of marriage. Actually, Dan, there is no place in the bible that favors one form of marriage over another . But this pronouncement brought out all the GOPs hate merchants whose love for Type 2 Diabetes is greater than their love for human rights.

It seems I’m running out of businesses I can patronize. The moment I learn of a corporation’s unsavory political positions, I honestly can’t bring myself to spend a single dime in one of these establishments. It’s been several years since I learned of Wal-mart’s practice of paying employees so little most are still on welfare to simply survive, and I’ve yet to step foot in one.

Wal-Mart pays workers so little, most employees are on welfare

Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores in the USA and Mexico have engaged in truly abhorrent treatment of all their lower echelon employees who do the majority of the grunt work. It’s pathetic how selfish the CEOs are to deny the workers healthcare and living wages while taking in record profits off virtual slave-labor.

The great taste or convenience a business provides is far less important than their treatment of humanity. I will easily find other replacements for these stores who feel its important for the public to know who they support politically. Willard Romney’s Bain Capital has a vast history of destroying lives in exchange for obscene profits, just like the aforementioned corporations. I refuse to be a vehicle for hate to flourish and I hope more will join me in boycotting these right-wing businesses permanently.

A Guest Blog by @KyleAllen1997

Economy, economy economy. That’s what numerous members of the GOP say the 2012 election is about, including Mitt Romney. But is it really? While Republicans bitch and moan and blame President Obama for “hard economic times” the President and numerous Democrats like Nancy Pelosi are trying to pass bills that will actually create jobs, like the Transportation bill. At the same time, numerous right-wing ultra social conservatives (Almost everyone in the GOP these days) are out in full force trying to ban same sex marriage and holding rallies to ban abortion.

North Carolinian Republican State Senator Peter Brunstetter proposed an amendment to officially ban same sex marriage AND same sex civil unions in the state. On May 8th, the state overwhelmingly voted in favor of it, making it the 31st state to add an amendment to ban same sex marriage to their constitution. Same sex marriage doesn’t hurt anyone. No one dies or gets hurt because of a same sex marriage. But the GOP is obsessed with who likes what kind of genitalia. If you are a man and like genitalia from another man, you would be someone who will destroy the world according to them. Ironically, most of them probably watch lesbian porn in the privacy of their own home while their wives are out running errands.

In April, after President Obama announced his plan to simply ask insurance companies to cover contraceptives for women, the GOP went completely psycho, which led to them proposing 1,100 state bills trying to restrict abortion and contraceptives. AKA: The War on Women. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker also feels that women shouldn’t be paid the same for the same work men do. All this, why? Because women have vaginas. Which is kinda what makes them women. For some reason, Republican men think they know what’s in the best interested for women, because somehow they know how women feel. To Republican men I say: You don’t have a vagina, you have no say.

Again, the GOP insists the 2012 election is all about jobs and the economy, while they try and dictate what women and the LGBT community can do with their lives. All this to say, if you have a vagina, or you are a woman and like vagina, or you are a man and like dick, or you care about basic human rights, you know who to vote for in November.

Many people say Canadians and Americans are so much alike. And you would be right. If you put a Canadian and American beside each other, you probably wouldn’t see a difference between the two. But socially, the two are completely different. While America is still debating same-sex marriage and abortion, Canadians are debating how much we should raise the healthcare budget to serve the people properly.

Many conservatives in the USA claim the economy is the most important issue for the 2012 election, all while they ban women from speaking in state legislature for saying the word “vagina”, create petitions to overturn marriage equality in some states, and create legislation to restrict abortion and contraceptives. Also, elected representatives in the House and Senate are deliberately going on “vacations” so they have a reason to not pass proper jobs plan proposed by President Obama so it won’t give him a “win”. After the 2010 midterm elections, Republican Mitch McConnell even said himself that the first priority for the GOP is to stop President Obama from getting a second term, even if it means throwing the middle class under the bus. All the while up here in Canada, the Conservative Party has a majority government, which means they can do whatever they want. They could gut the Civil Marriage Act, but they won’t. Prime Minister Harper even said himself that he would not pursue criminalization of abortion.

Mitch McConnell and President Obama

Canadians and Americans may speak the same way (with the exception of eh) wear the same clothes and shop at the same stores, but our countries could not be any more socially different. (and I think Canada is winning)

It seems when a child is born into privilege, more often than not that person turns out selfish, irresponsible and devoid of empathy. Willard Romney and Bush 43 are perfect examples. Although I’m not in complete agreement with their fathers politically, I can see honor and decency in some of their principles. I absolutely can’t say the same for Willard and W.

George H.W. Bush served in the military in World War 2, something Bush 43 avoided conveniently. He was a decorated Navy pilot in the war .
Military service
Service/branch United States Navy
Years of service 1942–1945
Rank Lieutenant (junior grade)
Unit Fast Carrier Task Force
Battles/wars World War II
Awards Distinguished Flying Cross
Air Medal (3)
Presidential Unit Citation.

A multitude of honors earned in service of his country. He continued his service for years as the director of the CIA from 1976-1977, unfortunately amassing power his colleague Dick Cheney and later his son would abuse for malevolent objectives. As president, he needed to increase taxes to help maintain financial stability, which went against his campaign promise, ‘No New Taxes.’ This lead to his defeat in 1992, with a fairly irresponsible economy that was unstable due to common practices of recent GOP presidencies. However, he didn’t drastically cut taxes to the tune of $1.3 TRILLION dollars like his son, which has been a tremendous factor in the collapse of our economy. The rich have benefitted obscenely while the middle class has virtually turned into the working poor overnight.

George Romney and Son Willard

History repeats itself again with Mittens, another spoiled, ambitious, unprincipled son of a reasonably decent man, George Romney as our GOP candidate for president.

As governor, Romney worked to overhaul the state’s financial and revenue structure, culminating in Michigan’s first state income tax, and greatly expanded the size of state government. Romney was a strong supporter of the American Civil Rights Movement. He briefly represented moderate Republicans against conservative Republican Barry Goldwaterduring the 1964 U.S. presidential election. Romney was a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 1968. While initially a front-runner, he proved an ineffective campaigner, and fell behind Richard Nixon in polls. Following a mid-1967 remark that his earlier support for the Vietnam War had been due to a “brainwashing” by U.S. military and diplomatic officials in Vietnam, his campaign faltered even more, and he withdrew from the contest in early 1968. Once elected president, Nixon appointed Romney Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Romney’s ambitious plans for housing production increases for the poor, and for open housing to desegregate suburbs, were modestly successful but often thwarted by Nixon. Romney left the administration at the start of Nixon’s second term in 1973. He admitted the Vietnam war was perpetuated by false means and was an advocate for civil rights! His son Willard protested anyone against the war, yet received 4 consecutive deferments. Unlike his son, George was a man of some principles. We have yet to see what Willard actually stands for.

It seems Mitt was for planned parenthood, gun control, LGBTQ rights, and universal healthcare at one time, but now is against all those ideas. I’d rather not go into his flip-flopping, as that would take up too much time. My point is, two rotten sons of fairly decent men should not ascend to the highest office in the land based on their family and its wealth of connections. Let’s learn from Bush 43 and keep Romney Jr. out of the White House. The Supreme Court will be decimated by this man, the rich will receive another $10 trillion in tax relief and we’ll all be posthumously baptized into the LDS faith, whether we like it or not.
