The GOP Believes Women Can’t Be Trusted With Their Own Bodies

19 Jun

By now, you’ve probably heard about the GOP lunacy in the Michigan Legislature this last week, where two female legislators were barred from speaking for using the term “vagina “ on the floor. These Republicans believe women are not qualified to speak of their own reproductive health and shouldn’t use icky words like “vagina”. It’s too offensive to men who feel they should control women’s bodies, because they know best.

20120619-081759.jpgLisa Brown of the Michigan House

Michigan isn’t alone. There are many other states who are just as insane in their pursuit of silencing women and restricting their rights. Check out this State-By-State Guide to 2012′s Anti-Choice Laws (So Far) . It’s a fantastic summary of all the insanity.

The VAWA or Violence Against Women Act has been vetoed by House GOP. Some of the repercussions of this are leaving women who depend on their husbands for citizenship status are no longer allowed to report domestic abuse secretly. They have a choice: either take the abuse or get deported. How philanthropic! This especially affects mail order brides. Women on Indian Reservations are also left in a very dangerous and vulnerable position as the GOP moronic version of the bill leaves these women unprotected.

There’s also a campaign to limit the rights of women in the military to report abuse. It’s been said only 13% of all rapes in the military are reported . But if a female soldier is raped and seeks an abortion, it becomes very tricky. Here’s the basic premise: Under current law, if a State Department employee is raped, her government health insurance plan will pay for an abortion if she wants one. But if an Army medic serving in Afghanistan is raped and becomes pregnant, she can’t use her military health plan to pay for an abortion. If she does decide to get an abortion, she will have to pay for it with her own money. And if she can’t prove she was raped—which is difficult before an investigation is completed—she may have to look for services off base, which can be dangerous or impossible in many parts of the world. (source: Mother Jones). John Boehner and his band of merry obstructionist assholes are blocking the bill to help female soldiers who have suffered this horrific fate.

In summary, these largely white, male Republicans feel it is acceptable for women to be raped and beaten with little consequence. She should definitely not be trusted to do what’s best for her own reproductive health. That’s obvious. I think they feel women are objects to be treated as pets. Pets don’t demand equal rights. They simply accept their fate, as they don’t know any better. Except this time, GOP monsters, the women will not be silenced at the voting booths. Of course, that’s provided these men don’t rig the elections. More on that later.

Just recently learned a Senator, yes of course he’s a Republican, has proposed a bill to DENY Medicaid women delivering babies use of epidurals. Sen. Daniel Liljenquist wants to disallow women from obtaining an epidural. This was proposed in August, 2010, but no decision has been made on the issue. How nauseating. How about, Senator, no anesthesia for your badly need vasectomy as the world doesn’t need any more Liljenquists running around!

Beck and Limbaugh got Huge Raises while Romney’s Clear Channel Fired Thousands

18 Jun

If you need an economic model that will predict the behavior of Willard Romney, simply look at his Bain Capital subsidiary, Clear Channel Communications™. It is a company that has recently fired thousands of lower wage employees while giving two incredibly hate-mongering misogynist bigots undeserved raises of obscene proportions.

20120618-074538.jpg

Obviously the raises are not based on merit. In 2011, Glenn Beck’s ratings dropped 50%. Bain and Clear Channel, under Willard’s guidance I imagine, recently DOUBLED HIS SALARY!! Perhaps because Glenn Beck is a member of Willard’s LDS club? Who knows? It’s certainly not because of his performance.

In light of Rush’s recent misogyny with the Sandra Fluke incident, he has lost over 51 sponsors yet has not suffered a single admonishment from his bosses at Bain Capital.

It’s interesting to note the timing of some of these mass firings. The first round happened in March of 2009, Clear Channel fired 1500 plus employees. Does anyone believe this wasn’t another calculated attempt by right wing business to help tank the economy? The timing couldn’t have been worse for American workers. If these monsters cared one bit about profit, Limbaugh and Beck would have seen their salaries unchanged. So, America, we see the motive for everything Willard, Bain and their band of obstructionist bastards in the Senate do: SPITE. This is a mere preview of what’s to come.

If you are a loud, white, preferably LDS bully, you are guaranteed a prominent spot in the Romney administration. Perhaps we can then solve the very pressing question: where’s the birth certificate? When that relevant issue is resolved, we can focus on jobs. Except the focus will be on getting rid of them to make Bain even more powerful. Frightening!

Fascism and the GOP: Inseparable

17 Jun

Comparisons to Hitler are sometimes referred to as Godwin’s Law where ultimately all comparisons can revert somehow into Naziism. The Teaparty tried that with Obama, although not one iota of parallel existed. The GOP is on a mad dash to becoming very much like a Fascist regime. This time, I will provide concrete examples to back up these assertions.  There is far too much similarity to be ignored.

20120617-090929.jpg

TeaParty Rallies: Breeding Grounds for Hate

Political scientist Dr. Lawrence Britt wrote an article about fascism “Fascism Anyone?,” Free Inquiry, Spring 2003 . Studying the fascist regimes of Hitler, Franco, Mussolini and Pinochet for example. I’ve likened each point with an obvious example of current Republican practices and policies.

The 14 characteristics are:

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
i.e. THE AMERICAN TEAPARTY
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
VOTER SUPPRESSION AND FOR-PROFIT HEALTHCARE
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of “need.” The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc. In the USA, people have often died because they are uninsured.  This is fine to all the “TeaParty Patriots” apparently.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
STATES PASS ANTI SHARIA LAW MEASURES

20120617-091259.jpg

States with Sharia Law on the Books

The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

4. Supremacy of the Military
ROMNEY wants to increase military spending and start new conflicts while Democrats try to end wars. The GOP plutocracy rarely has served militarily yet insists on widespread participation ironically.

Even when there are massive domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected.

5. Rampant Sexism
AKA The GOP War on Women
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.
Watch Lisa Brown and other Democratic Members of the Michigan Legislature try to fight the war on women

6. Controlled Mass Media
FOX NEWS AND BAIN CAPITAL OWNERS OF CLEAR CHANNEL
Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common. POLITICO admitted journalists have NOT reported on Republican obstructionism.

7. Obsession with National Security
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses. THE GOP CLAIMS PRESIDENT OBAMA IS TOO SOFT ON NATIONAL SECURITY. Romney has all but declared war with Iran and has little regard for the loss of life that would be assured.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined
CREATIONISM SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS??
Many in the GOP believe this. Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government’s policies or actions

20120617-092544.jpg

Separation of Church and State in Jeopardy

9. Corporate Power is Protected
“CORPORATIONS ARE PEOPLE MY FRIENDS” AND CITIZENS UNITED
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed
GOVERNOR WALKER AND THE KOCH/WISCONSIN ANTI-UNION MOVEMENT
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed .

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
GOP REFERS TO HOLLYWOOD AS THE LIBERAL ELITE
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment
THE RISE OF PRIVATE PRISONS IN THE NATION WITH THE MOST PRISONERS PER CAPITA
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption

THE OIL AND GAS LOBBYISTS making energy and environmental policy simultaneously. Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

14. Fraudulent Elections

THE 2000 ‘ELECTION’ OF GEORGE W BUSH BY SCOTUS

Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

I’m sure there are even more examples of each of these tenets one could find. A comparison to fascism is absolutely warranted and we must be wary of history’s lessons to avoid making mistakes again. Mitt Romney would be a mistake of massive proportions. Just look at this SCOTUS illustration. Enough to frighten you silly!

Has America Gone Mad? A Canadian Perspective (Guest Blog)

16 Jun

20120616-221458.jpg

Many people say Canadians and Americans are so much alike. And you would be right. If you put a Canadian and American beside each other, you probably wouldn’t see a difference between the two. But socially, the two are completely different. While America is still debating same-sex marriage and abortion, Canadians are debating how much we should raise the healthcare budget to serve the people properly.

Many conservatives in the USA claim the economy is the most important issue for the 2012 election, all while they ban women from speaking in state legislature for saying the word “vagina”, create petitions to overturn marriage equality in some states, and create legislation to restrict abortion and contraceptives. Also, elected representatives in the House and Senate are deliberately going on “vacations” so they have a reason to not pass proper jobs plan proposed by President Obama so it won’t give him a “win”. After the 2010 midterm elections, Republican Mitch McConnell even said himself that the first priority for the GOP is to stop President Obama from getting a second term, even if it means throwing the middle class under the bus. All the while up here in Canada, the Conservative Party has a majority government, which means they can do whatever they want. They could gut the Civil Marriage Act, but they won’t. Prime Minister Harper even said himself that he would not pursue criminalization of abortion.

Canadians and Americans may speak the same way (with the exception of eh) wear the same clothes and shop at the same stores, but our countries could not be any more socially different. (and I think Canada is winning)

The Racists Have Their Candidate in Willard Romney

15 Jun

Just look at this crowd. Not a drop of ethnicity. I’m sure only a handful of last names end in a vowel, keeping them safe from the voter purges that the GOP is sponsoring around the country. The more minorities vote, the less likely it is they will win. With the endorsement of Rand Paul, Ted Nugent and Donald Trump, Mitt Romney seems perfectly fine embracing racist surrogates.

20120615-082832.jpg

The “always ethnically diverse” crowd at a Romney rally

If you simply read the accounts of yesterday’s Ohio rallies for both candidates (Cleveland) PlainDealer notes that there were “…about 1500 people…” at the rally for President Obama. The very enthusiastic crowd looked like regular, ordinary Americans of every age and ethnic background.
On the other hand, the Romney rally speech had an all white crowd of “…about 100 people….” in Cincinnati (according to KnoxvilleNewsSentinel). The Romney crowd looked about as enthusiastic as people waiting for a dental appointment.
A dental appointment that includes a root canal to be more specific.
White supremacy is very inherent in the Book of Mormon. The books of Nephi and Moroni state the inherent supremacy of the white male. Women and blacks are far inferior in their view, which I’m certain Mitt Romney shares.

20120615-084109.jpg

White party: The Angel Moroni appears to Mormon Founder, Joseph Smith

Meanwhile, President Obama is due to grant amnesty to immigrants today trying to implement, amid incredible GOP obstructionism, aspects of the DREAM Act. He’s granting amnesty to 800,000 immigrants who were brought here as children and have lived a lawful life, without the fortune of residential legality, by no fault of their own.
Mittens, on the other hand believes in self-deportation. If you were a brought to the USA as a child, without proper documentation, and you’ve lived here for twenty plus years, Mitt believes you should simply get the hell out, voluntarily. Nice, huh? I read a great account of a couple of Latino protestors getting roughed up by Romney’s security detail at a Texas rally sponsored by a company owned by the Puente Brothers. He has a bit of a tough time relating to those other than his superior ilk, according to his scripture. Any dissent has been grossly mishandled and quashed. If it weren’t for small publications like The Daily Kos, we’d never hear about these unpleasant incidents.

If Reverend Wright and President Obama’s religion has been called into question ad nauseum in the media, we can certainly bring Mitt’s Mormon-ness to the forefront of our discussion. What’s most egregious is the absolutely racist history of his faith and that should be addressed. Granted, the fundamentalists are cool with his royal whiteness for now because he’s not black, but would they be ok with his LDS beliefs? Would they be cool with the fact that Mormons don’t believe in the immaculate conception of Jesus? Would they be cool with Willard’s belief that he’ll be a god of his very own planet when he dies? Would they be cool with the Mormon desire to posthumously baptize anyone and everyone into Mormonism?

I’d say they’ll swallow this GOP medicine reluctantly and rally behind him. Racism seems to be stronger than religious bigotry. I’m sure even the oddities that accompany the Mormon faith are more tolerable to the racists of the GOP. However, it might make them feel icky, albeit less icky than that damned black guy living in the White House.

Letting Children Die for Religious Beliefs

14 Jun
20120614-080258.jpg

What science books will look like soon if the Fundamentalists take over

Don’t let the title fool you. I’m not talking about kids in the crossfires of some holy war between Christians and Jews or Shi’ites and Sunnis. I’m talking about American parents letting their child die needlessly because their beliefs prohibit scientific intervention. I’m talking about unfathomable idiocy, by ignominious zealots that have caused avoidable tragedies.

If you knew how to swim and your child did not, and he or she is drowning, you refuse to jump in and easily save the child, should you be charged with manslaughter? As a parent, I’d say unequivocally YES! Read this account of a child with a simple appendicitis who suffered and died because their parents tried to pray it better. The seventeen year old boy had no medical care and died without any painkillers. The parents were ACQUITTED but now must simply call Child Protective Services if another of their children get sick. Way to go prayer! Parents who believe in mythical, fantastical bullshit over science ought to be relieved of their parental duty. There have been many awful accounts of children dying due to non-intervention because of religion and seldom does a parent receive any real punitive repercussions.

A controversy brews over vaccinations, proven to save billions of lives

Next we move on to another group of anti-science idiots, the “I won’t vaccinate my kids” imbeciles. Lately we’ve had to endure the faux controversy of vaccines causing autism, which has been proven categorically false. Then there are those that choose not to vaccinate via their religious convictions. A conviction by a court of law is really what they need.

Take Massachusetts for example. Between 1996 and 2006 the rate of those seeking exemptions has more than doubled – from 0.24 percent, or 210, in 1996 to 0.60 percent, or 474, in 2006. Funny, who was governor in 2006, at the height of religious exemptions? Governor LDS Bishop Willard Romney, the man who recently failed to correctly identify a doughnut. Perhaps that was unrelated to my point, but funny nonetheless.

Horrid diseases that were eradicated are making a comeback. There are roughly eight afflictions coming back in alarming numbers, some due to lack of vaccinations en masse and others due to lack of, say sex education. Sex ed, another “taboo” subject for the fundamentalist psychos.

There’s a point where religion should stay the hell out of science and medicine. It is where it prevents the application of tried and true medical practices. Period. Anyone violating scientific law based on their “beliefs” is a detriment to society and their voice and vote should be relinquished.

Fallacy Over Fact: The Creationist Museum and Dominionist Fundamentalism

13 Jun

20120613-082225.jpg

It’s truly an embarrassment to my country. Anyone who lives in a country, like Norway for example, who believes largely that religion is pretty much a farce, has to sympathize with me on this one.

Near Petersburg, Kentucky lies the 70,000 square foot Creationist Museum. A building dedicated to preserving the ridiculous notion the Earth is 6,000 years old. Frightening, but it’s doing quite well. Over 1.3 million suckers have visited the museum since its opening four years ago.

20120613-082848.jpg

Jesus Christ. I can only attribute the museum’s success to the rise of the seven mountains prophecy . It states Seven Mountains dominionism seeks to place Christians in control over the seven forces that shape and control our culture: (1) Business; (2) Government; (3) Media; (4) Arts and Entertainment; (5) Education; (6) Family; and (7) Religion. The reason for this, as Lance Wallnau, the leading advocate for Seven Mountains theology, explained is that Jesus “doesn’t come back until He’s accomplished the dominion of nations.” And the way “dominion of nations” is accomplished is by having Christians gain control of these “seven mountains” in order to install a “virtual theocracy” overseen by “true apostles” who will fight Satan and his Antichrist agenda

These psychotic zealots are working their way into the mainstream, not to be overshadowed by Willard Romney’s White Horse Prophecy

20120613-083536.jpg
This is the assertion that Mormons expect the United States to eventually become a theocracy dominated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Joseph Smith prophesied this back in the mid nineteenth century.

Can’t we evolve a little and stop with the fantastical nonsense that is religion mixed with politics? Frankly, the whole thing frightens me to no end. Why must a president believe in the supernatural? I’m a little sick of this fallacious way of thinking dominating the political dialogue. Aren’t you?

Obama Sends More Firefighting Aid to Colorado While Mitt Denigrates Firefighters

13 Jun

It’s a massive fire, over 47 square miles. It’s larger than nearby Fort Collins, Colorado. But they are starting to make some headway on this behemoth inferno.

20120613-072820.jpg

After Governor Willard with his infinite compassion for real working Americans stated how we don’t need anymore firefighters and other public sector workers, this massive fire has grown to monstrous proportions. Thankfully our President Obama has sent tankers and massive aid to Colorado through the US Forestry Department. I’m sure this is “government overreach,” eh Mittens? Just a quick post showing how differently these two men treat America. One prefers an inferno from hell, one wants to extinguish it.

Let the Motherf*#ker Burn! Love, Mitt and the RGA

12 Jun

As usual, windbag and/or “the Drugster” (as Ed Schultz refers to him) Rush Limbaugh went on a rant claiming teachers, policemen and firefighters are public sector jobs that literally do nothing for the economy as a whole. He claims, erroneously, these occupations do not benefit the economy one iota, as they are paid by taxpayers. He forgets without employment, these workers would require government assistance that would hinder rather than help the economy.

President Obama, with the destructive agenda of the RGA, has shed millions of public sector jobs which are, apparently, unimportant. Meanwhile, private sector jobs are way up from the levels of growth under President Bush. (see chart below) We’ll never hear the positives about job growth, nor will the RGA take blame for their actions. The GOP pimps their overall unemployment figures, leaving out the fact they are the main reason it’s somewhat stagnant.. Read more on the treasonous and insidious plot formed on January 20, 2009 to sabotage the economy by GOP leadership to make President Obama a one-term leader.

I’m perplexed by as hell by these Republicans, demonizing a very necessary part of society: educating and protecting our citizens. Contrary to these psychotic megalomaniacs on the Right, these jobs affect the unemployment rate and by gainfully employing citizens, we in fact STIMULATE AND GROW THE ECONOMY.

20120612-053641.jpg

Public Sector and Private Sector Growth under Bush and Obama

The International Association of Firefighters union explains how Tea Party monsters like John Kasich (OH), Scott Walker (WI), Nikki Haley (SC) and Chris Christie (NJ) to name only a few, have decimated public sector jobs which have led to economic declines in each state. They’ve partnered with ALEC to give all these governors the necessary ammo to enact these destructive firing policies blaming pensions and health benefits (heaven forbid!) of public sector workers on budget shortfalls. They collectively fail to mention the billions of dollars in insane tax cuts they’ve given to the so-called job creators. If I hear that term in person from one of these clowns, get me a bucket. It makes me beyond nauseous.

The new de facto leader of the brigade of malevolence is this man, Willard Romney, now leading the charge against evil teachers, cops and the folks who pull burning babies out of buildings.

20120612-055002.jpg

Recently he declared we don’t need any more firefighters, teachers or cops . Tell that to the parents whose kids have 40+ students in their overcrowded classrooms. Tell that to the person whose house burned down because the overextended fire department has been cut to ribbons.

Naturally, Fox News has tried to edit out these ridiculously callous comments made by candidate Willard, but to no avail. His feelings and those of the RGA, ALEC and the Teabaggers are well known to sensible Americans who value and treasure these important members of our society. There is no way to keep a healthy, functioning society with these heartless thugs running things. History has shown us that.
